Wynford Elementary
October--2018
From the Desk of Mrs. Ratliff
Our Mumkin Sale was a huge success! We sold 2,011 items and made $9,604.45 in profit. This money is earmarked for Leadership Activities in our building--student clubs, holding leadership brunches, holding leadership days, attending outside leadership event, needed supplies, and almost anything that will allow teachers to help "find the genius in every child!" Thank you for your continued support!
We have an upcoming Leadership Day on Thursday, November 8th. The day will start at Bucyrus Elementary, lunch will be served there and then the afternoon will be spent in our building. Educators from around the state and local stakeholders will be in attendance to experience what the 7 Habits look like in each of our buildings and how they have impacted our students, our lessons and our day to day workings. If you are interested in attending, you can find the registration form on our website. There is a fee for attending, the fee covers lunch and costs that are incurred for this event and future events. We are proud to showcase our leaders and take part in this unique opportunity to syngerize with Bucyrus Elementary.
As always, the connection between home and school is an important one. If you have concerns, please contact us via note, email or phone call. Communication is key to success. Conferences are this week and next, I hope you sign up!
Yours in Education,
Nelle Ratliff

7 Habits Review--Habit 2--Begin with the End in Mind
One of the best ways to incorporate Habit 2 into your life is to develop a Personal Mission Statement. It focuses on what you want to be and do. It is your plan for success. It reaffirms who you are, puts your goals in focus, and moves your ideas into the real world. Your mission statement makes you the leader of your own life. You create your own destiny and secure the future you envision.
From the Desk of Mrs. Amy Taylor-Sheldon
It is important for your child to attend school every day. When your student misses a significant amount of school, even if the absences are excused, the child misses critical instruction time and learning opportunities. This often has long-term, negative effects on a child, such as lower achievement and a greater chance of not graduating on time.
A new state law defines excessive absence and truancy:
Excessive absence: a student misses 38 or more hours of school in a single month, or 65 or more hours in one school year, with or without a legitimate excuse.
Truancy: a student is absent from school without legitimate excuse for 30 or more consecutive hours, 42 or more hours in one school month, or 72 or more hours in a school year.
Being tardy counts towards the total hours for absences.
Please make sure to call the office when your student is absent, and also send a note to the office as a follow up. All absences require a note from home or the doctor in order to be excused.
Halloween Parties
Parents will be allowed to enter the building at 2:15 and are to park in the back parking lot.
You will receive a visitor's sticker upon entering the building.
Cars will not be released until the buses have left the lot.
