Celebrating Reading

Thank you so much for all the fantastic efforts on World Book Day yesterday. There were amazing costumes in a hall packed full of families reading together, it really was a lovely start to the day celebrating everything books give us. Our huge thanks to all parents, carers and family members for all your support.

The school met later in the morning for the annual book quiz. It was extremely close in the first two rounds but the buzzer round proved the decider with the sharks becoming victorious. Well done sharks, and well done to everyone who took part.

Pancake Races

Year 2 enjoyed this traditional Shrove Tuesday celebration along Kirkgate, racing along whilst flipping pancakes! Our thanks to the Cathedral and everyone else involved in the organisation of this lovely local event.

Year 2 Welcome Worship

Year 2 introduced this half term's value which is justice. They entertained parents with their video clips of incidents around school when children might say, 'It's not fair!' then presented their recipe for friendship:

A spoonful of kindness, a cupful of confidence,

A handful of gentleness, to be great friends.

A jug of understanding, a teaspoon of sharing,

Two litres of happiness, for friends that are caring.

A pinch of helpfulness, a sprinkle of love,

100 grams of laughter, for a friendship to be good.

Method: Mix all these together, then you will have the perfect friend.

Comic Relief

Next Friday we will be celebrating 'Red Nose Day' well into the evening, as the Friends' disco is also on that day (full details below)! During the day, children can wear something red. This can be as simple as a red t-shirt or tights or headband on this non-uniform day. If you are able to send in a suggested donation of £1, we will have a great total to send to Comic Relief as the Friends also have fundraising planned.

Our school ambassadors will be selling red noses during morning breaks next week (cost £1.25) and we would love it if you make your purchase at school not elsewhere as we have box loads to sell!!

Parent Governor Elections

We are delighted that three parents have put themselves forward to be elected as governors. A letter explaining the voting process along with a supporting statement for each candidate went home yesterday. If everyone could take the time to return a vote, we would be grateful. A copy of the information and voting papers is available on the school website and the closing date to to return your ballot paper is Monday 18th March.

Message from the Friends

We hope everyone had a fantastic half term break and you're all looking forward to our exciting events in the lead up to Easter.

School Disco:
Get your dancing shoes ready for the school disco on Friday 15th March, which is also Red Nose Day, so the theme is - wear something red! We will follow our usual format of EYFS and KS1 5.30-6.30pm and junior disco 6.45-7.45pm. We would like to remind all parents of the younger age group that they need to stay for the early disco, and new for 2019, all junior parents are welcome to stay - we are creating a parents' room with tea and coffee (donations to Comic Relief!) if you'd like to stay on site. We would also love to hear from anyone who can help at both discos (thank you for offers already received - but the more the merrier!).

Family Quiz Night: A brand new event for 2019! We'd like to host a 'Family and Friends Quiz Night'. This will be straight after school on Thursday 4th April 3.30-5.30pm. Teams of up to 8 people (children and adults) can enter, we will provide a light tea for everyone, entry will be £2 per person including food. There will be a raffle and additional refreshments for sale. Children who are booked into Oscar's can join an Oscar's team and take part. More information after the half term break.

Easter Events: We will hold our annual Easter egg competition on the last Monday of term (8th April). The theme this year is 'Story Books'. Our second Easter tradition, an egg hunt on the school field, will also take place as soon as school finishes for the term, at 2pm on Friday 12th April.

Duck Race: Save the date!! Wednesday 22nd May will see our annual duck race on the Skell. Meet at 5pm by Fishergreen bridge.

Summer Fair: Saturday 22nd June will be our summer fair. A fantastic family event open to the whole community: Bar, BBQ and bouncy castle plus many more stalls. Details nearer the time.

That's all for now, but if you have any ideas for future events or you want to help us out, please let us know - email or send us a facebook message Thank you.
