ONGOING REMINDER: Guzick Instructional Expectations for Excellence - Aggressive Monitoring and Small Group Instruction
Last week our instructional plans included common assessments. So this week, is a great time to start implementing, with fidelity, aggressive monitoring and small group instruction to respond to the data and meet the varied needs of our learners.
Check out the PPT from the Aggressive Monitoring session and a handout from the Small Group Instruction session with implementation expectations! We look forward to supporting all Giant Educators with implementation of Aggressive Monitoring and Small Group Instruction.
IMPORTANT: Grading Expectations - 2nd - 5th Grade
-Update grades weekly (at least 2 grades recommended)
-Include grades from all assignment categories (classwork, homework, tests/projects)
-Include grades that are directly linked to mastery of the state standards
Furthermore, DISD Board Policy EIA Local (excerpt below and link to policy) indicates that students who receive a grade below 70 on the progress report should be encouraged to attend tutoring to complete special projects or extra credit assignments prior to the end of the six-week grading period. Please ensure that you are documenting you communication efforts with students and parents of students who receive a failing grade at the 3-week progress report time.

"A student who receives an interim progress report during the six- week grading period indicating the student’s performance in anysubject or class is below 70, or whose average is deemed border- line according to District guidelines, shall be encouraged to attend tutorial sessions complete special projects or extra credit assign- ments prior to the end of the six-week grading period. When both the teacher and the principal agree that extenuating circumstances are present, the student may be given additional time to complete the special projects or extra credit assignments beyond the end of the six-week grading period." Week 1 Team Challenge: No Tardies and 100% Participation in Team Thursday (Wear Spirit Colors/Attire of your selected university and take a group picture and send to Davis. Advancing Teams will be announced 3/18/19.
Week 2 Team Challenge: Perfect Attendance and 100% Participation in Team Thursday (Wear Spirit Colors/Attire of your selected university and take a group picture and send to Davis)

Ø The teams who successfully complete the Week 1 Team Challenge and advance to the Final Four will all receive a Jean Pass. The advancing teams will be announced on Monday, March 18th!
Ø The teams who successfully complete the Week 2 Team Challenge and advance to the Championship Round will receive a Jean Pass and a Catered Breakfast. The advancing teams will be announced Monday, March 27th!
Ø The Grand Champion Team(s) that successfully completes the Week 3 Team Challenge will receive a Jean Pass, Catered Lunch, and an Individual Scratch Off Prize! The Champions will be announced at staff meeting on April 1st!
REMINDER: Timeliness During Transitions (Lunch and Specials)
Please ensure that you are picking up your students on time during critical transitions throughout the school day. Your timeliness impacts the timeliness of us all! Thank you for ensuring that we are maximizing instructional time in all classes.
REMINDER: Check Your Mailboxes - AM and PM
Please ensure that you are checking your mailbox both in the morning and afternoon. We typically have important, time-sensitive communication that needs to be distributed in a timely manner in your boxes. Thank you for your help!
REMINDER: Afternoon Snacks - To Be Distributed Before 2:30pm
Please let's ensure that we are distributing the snacks that we receive as part of the Healthy Snack Program before 2:30pm. The snacks should be consumed in the classroom (not hallway). Thank you for your help!
REMINDER: 21 PD Hours - All Teachers Hired Before 11/16/18
Region 10 is our educational service center. They offer a lot of relevant, engaging, face-to-face, or online professional development sessions. Most of the offerings are free and some have a cost attached to it. If you are in need of professional development hours to fulfill your required 21 hours, I encourage you to explore the offerings. If you have any questions or need assistance with selecting training to fulfill your 21 hours please reach out to me.
The deadline for completing the required 21 hours of Professional Development is now March 31, 2018. Please check Cornerstone to ensure that you have 21 hours documented. If you do not, please ensure that you have uploaded all certificates (in or outside of the district training) and/or all of the training you have attended are properly recorded.
