KIPP Truth Elementary

Summer 2016 Newsletter Volume I

Note from the Principal

Hello KTE Families!

I hope that you all are having a wonderful start to your summer! At Truth Elementary we are busy cleaning, helping the middle school with their move in, and getting ready for next year. We miss you all and cannot wait to see you for our upcoming summer events.

Please read today’s newsletter for more information about our summer family events, some snapshots of what teachers are doing this summer, and a few other important updates.

Most importantly, make sure that you READ, BABY, READ every day this summer! Don’t forget that KIPPsters who complete their summer packet and reading log are eligible for a special event the first week back. Take good care and we will see you soon!

Love,

Ms. Hill

Sight Words

One of the most important skills to practice over the summer is sight words. Students that practice sight words for 20 minutes a day are able to see high frequency words and immediately know what they say. This means that they are able to read faster and with more fluency, which helps them understand what they read. Our goal for end of PreK is 50 words, 150 words for kindergarten, and 300 for first and second graders. Please see below for our list of sight words to study and you can visit http://www.sightwords.com/sight-words/games/ for some ideas of how to make studying sight words fun!
