Weekly Happenings at Southeastern Elementary
Principal's Postings
Welcome to the August 20th, 2021, edition of Southeastern Scene.
Hello Explorers:
There has been a lot of correspondence this week with many families about how to keep our students healthy and safe. Families have been so kind, helpful, and flexible, and we greatly appreciate your kindness and support. A few reminders as we do our best to continue to navigate the wellness of our students:
The district has updated its masking requirements and quarantine protocols for close contacts. Masks are required on the bus and inside the building. If you have a student that needs to quarantine due to being a close contact, you will be notified by the school, and we will provide you potential dates of return based off of quarantine times and negative PCR COVID testing. Additionally, HSE schools is reducing the length of quarantine for unvaccinated students and staff. A 10-day quarantine will begin with return to school on day 11. Students could potentially return on day 7 if the following guidelines are met:
- Day 7 return with a negative PCR COVID test and confirmed by Nurse Brown, with no symptoms. Day 7-14 at school will require students to remain 3 feet apart in the classroom while receiving instruction. This means students will remain at their desks with desks three feet apart for a large portion of the day. With the extra precautions in place, early returning students may eat lunch outside or in the conference room with Mrs. Chastain or Mrs. Monkul.
- Day 11-14 will require students to remain 3 feet apart while receiving instruction. This means students will remain at their desks the majority of the school day with desks separated 3 feet apart. This means students might remain at their desks with desks three feet apart for a large portion of the day. With the extra precautions in place, early returning students may eat lunch outside or in the conference room with Mrs. Chastain or Mrs. Monkul.
Your child should not attend school during quarantine. He/she can expect two zooms a day, with activities available on canvas.
Yours in education,
Mrs. Chastain & Mrs. Monkul

Snack Attack
Southeastern Elementary is pleased to announce the return of the Snack Attack program for those students in need. This program, supported by the Fishers Youth Assistance Program, is designed to provide students a little extra nourishment for the weekend until they can receive a hot meal at school on Monday.
Here's how the program works. Your student will pick up a small sack of food on Fridays to be taken home and enjoyed over the weekend. The sack is filled with individually wrapped snacks such as granola bars, fruit cups, pop tarts, peanut butter/crackers, Goldfish crackers, etc. The type of snacks will vary each week. Please let me know if your child has a peanut allergy as he/she will receive a special bag of peanut-free snacks. There is no cost to you or our school. If you are interested in having your student participate in FYAP's Snack Attack please sign him/her up at this link. If you have questions, please contact me, Jennifer Smith, at jensmith@hse.k12.in.us, or 317-594-4340.
Body Safety Presentations
Each school year, all students in grades K-12 must receive education on child abuse prevention per Indiana Code 20-19-3-11. Students will receive this education through a curriculum created by Child Lures Prevention and presented by trained staff from the Indiana Center for Prevention of Youth Abuse and Suicide. This curriculum focuses on how children can keep themselves safe.
Join us for a Zoom Parent Night to help you better understand this important information your child will be receiving.
Save the Date: Thursday, August 26th at 7:00 PM
Please register at the link below. Parents who register will then receive a Zoom link for the meeting.
Nurse's Notes
Please remember to send your student to school healthy. If a student is ill and has any of the symptoms of Covid listed below, we encourage you to get your student tested using a PCR test, which is available via Fishers Health Department (COVID Vaccine | Fishers, IN - Official Website) or the Indiana Department of Health (ISDH - Novel Coronavirus: COVID-19 Testing Information). PCR tests are the most accurate and provide less risk of a false positive or negative result. A visit to your physician is also suggested if you feel this is not Covid-related, then a doctor's note would be needed for your student to return to school. Please do not send your child to school ill or while waiting for Covid test results.

Dismissal Manager
All students are assigned to a bus. School Dismissal Manager allows you to indicate that your child will be a bus rider, car rider or go to the YMCA on any given day. The schedule can be set up for an entire semester/school year; but daily and weekly changes can be made. If you need to change your student's dismissal, you will need to log in to your Dismissal Manger account and make the necessary changes by 1:00 pm each day. A list will be generated before the end of the school day with all of the dismissal changes for that day.
Returning parents need to UNINSTALL last year’s App from their phone before installing the new App. The Apps are no longer available in the App Stores. New/Incoming parents will need to add the SDM App to a smartphone, tablet, or web browser via this link. The app is compatible with Android and Apple devices and is free.
You can find Dismissal Manager on our website by visiting ses.hseschools.org and scrolling down to the quick links on the bottom right side of our website, or by clicking this link.
