Congratulations to our 2023 Georgia Association of Teachers of Family and Consumer Sciences (GATFACS) Teacher of the Year, Ms. Christie Glaze!
The award recognizes a Family and Consumer Sciences teacher who has gone above and beyond to demonstrate innovation in the classroom, commitment to their students, and dedication to the improvement of career and technical education in their school and community.
We are proud of you and how well you represent our school, Ms. Glaze!
WBHS TOTY Finalist Feature: Sarah Glass
Did you know?!
- Mrs. Glass loves concerts and music! If you go into her classroom, they have themed music days! She loves almost everything but currently is listening to a lot of the band called Novo Amor.
- One of the most special parts of who she is besides being a mom is the bond she shares with her wombmate, Rachel. Sarah is the oldest twin by 17 minutes. Rachel is also a teacher but lives in Savannah.
- She is a 5:30am worker outer. She has always prioritized exercising especially because of the mental health benefits. Waking up that early isn’t her favorite, but she likes that it sets a positive tone to her day. In her life she's completed a half marathon, has a black belt in karate, and played soccer throughout high school! Now she prefers yoga and simple workouts in her living room.
- She is working on a new art series that she's super proud of called “Breezeblocks”. She's completed about 10 works this year and has about 7 more to go. She's hoping for a solo show at some point soon!
Thanks for being an amazing Art teacher, mentor, and role model for our students!
Congratulations to Craig Martin, this year's STAR Teacher!
Mr. Martin was selected by STAR student, Isaac Sanders.
He says...
- This is year 19 in education, and 13th at WBHS. When Dr. Darby hired me in 2010, I figured that WB would be a nice work home for 1-2 years until I could find work in a larger county. Little did I know that I would still be here in 2023, and can't imagine being anywhere else.
- My outside of work time revolves around family and sports, specifically the baseball and softball. All three kiddos (Luke - 13, Emma Kate - 11, and Jack - 9) play travel ball in the spring and fall, and you will most likely find us at a field somewhere between the months of February-June and August-November! My wife and I are approaching our 15th year of marriage...I'm not sure how I outkicked my coverage on that one!!!
- I love to read about anything politics, economics, or history (because of course), and enjoy watching NFL, MLB, and college football with the boys. I used to be reasonably good at water-skiing, knee boarding, and wake boarding, but Father Time is quickly putting an end to those adventures! To make up for the loss of watersports, I've taken up running, albeit not as frequently (or gracefully) as I'd like. I've also been known to be partial to the occasional Dad Joke...
Thanks for all you do for WBHS, Craig, and we are all better educators for your mentorship in the classroom!
