Plan ahead for winter weather/ alerts

Anacortes Middle School Builders Club will be having a clothing Drive in January. If over the holiday you're thinking of throwing some clothes away remember Rachel's closet is a great place for them to stay. Donate your gently used clothing in January to Rachel's closet. Please drop off items at the middle school.

Anacortes Junior Cheer Clinic

Clinic will be at Anacortes Middle School Tues Jan 21st and Wed Jan 22 6-7 pm • Dance, cheers, jumps and chants instructed by AHS Varsity Cheerleaders • Cheerleaders will cheer at the AHS home game on Jan 24th vs. Lynden Christian • Entry into the game for the cheerleader is included in the cost of clinic. • Family is encouraged to come to the game and watch the Cheerleaders. Spectator cost for Adults $6 Children $3

Ski/Snowboard Bus Info

The Anacortes/Burlington Mt. Baker Winter Ride Program is open to all students in 6-12 grade.
-8 week program starting January 4th 2020 (Saturdays only)
- No experience necessary
-Ski/snowboard equipment rental available
-Lessons available & optional
-Transportation is provided by a private charter bus
-Restroom facilities available during travel

Sign ups will run through December 15th and are in a first come first serve basis. All weekly trips are chaperoned.

It is that time of year to sign-up for APRD’s Boys Youth Basketball League! Visit our website at: to get more information or to register your child online. We are also looking for coaches for all age divisions. If you are interested please let us know. The league is not possible without the dedicated efforts of our volunteer coaches!

Class Act: Kindergarten - 2nd grade Friday - January 10th - February 28th from 4-5:15 pm. (No class on 1/17 and 2/14)

So you want to be a spy? Then you should attend spy school! Students will create a unique personality for a spy character and play fun theatre games that will develop acting skills and the ability to work with others. Students will be a part of a narrated performance, complete with costumes and stage make-up, demonstrating what it means to be a super spy. All classes will be held at ACT’s Annex Stage and the performance is scheduled for the final day of class. or call 360-293-6829

Winter CSA Opportunity in Anacortes

Boldly Grown Farm is a certified organic farm in Skagit Valley. Our family farm grows fall & winter vegetables to feed our community during the typical off-season. Our Winter CSA (community supported agriculture) program has expanded to Anacortes this season! We are excited to partner with the Island Hospital Health Resource Center as a drop site.

With our CSA share, you can look forward to:

  • 12 bountiful, biweekly veggie boxes from late October through early April
  • High-quality, certified organic produce, from staples to specialty items
  • Value-added products like kraut, chili powder and more
  • Produce storage tips and recipes from your food-loving farmers
  • Convenient drop sites in Seattle, Skagit Valley and Bellingham

All fourth graders are eligible to see America’s natural wonders and historic sites for free through the Every Kid Outdoors Program! This program provides fourth graders and their families access to public lands (NATIONAL PARKS, FORESTS, WILDLIFE AREAS, BLM, ETC.) for one year. Passes can be printed and brought with the child on their park visit. Encourage fellow educators, parents and friends with fourth graders to download their Every Kid Outdoors pass today!

History Day- Interested in good news about young people?

If you have a few minutes to explore what History Day is about, you can find information about the national program at and information about Washington History Day as a program of the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction at

In addition to explanations of what History Day is and what its value is to participating students, you will see examples of good student work.

Time commitment can be as little as one Saturday morning (7March20) or a few hours on your own time at your computer whenever you like in February.

Anacortes Middle School students will be among the participants for the third time in school history. One group of students took their work all the way to the national contest at the University of Maryland in June of 2018.

The Salish Sea School announces the launch of our summer student program, Guardians of the Sea, for rising 9th-12th graders!Build your college resume and confidence through our unique program that includes involvement in local marine research, leadership development activities, identification of innate gifts, participation in environmental service projects, and connection to local scientists with mentorship opportunities! Reduce your stress and anxiety through our easy-to-use, every day stress-reduction practices! Explore the Salish Sea on a boat, in a small-group environment, with a 5:2 student to teacher ratio! Connect to a fun, like-minded community of students! Join us every summer, for all four years and for our year-round gatherings! Each Guardians of the Sea session is four days long (eight hours per day) and launches from Skyline Marina in Anacortes. The Deans of Admissions from all 5 United States Service Academies (West Point, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, and Merchant Marine) will be presenting a joint Service Academy Workshop for interested students and family members on Saturday, January 25, 2020, at the University of Washington (Architecture Hall Rm 147) from 4-6:30 PM. There is no cost to attend this unique opportunity to hear about Academy admissions directly from the men and women who oversee the process. Interested individuals should register at this link. WWU Youth Programs want you! – to come join us and explore our marine science programs.

Western Washington University Youth Program is offering several opportunities for school age students in 2020 at Shannon Point Marine Center in Anacortes.

Coming this winter/spring:

Feb 11-13th, 1pm-5pm: Ocean After School: 3 afternoons during early release week for students in grades 3-5 to join staff at Shannon Point Marine Center to learn more about our ocean from top to bottom. Learn more and register on our website:

Friday March 13th, 6-9pm: Kids Night Out @ Western – Anacortes: Students in grades K-5 join us for an evening of hands on marine science activities and learning.
