Week 4

Can you believe we are already in Week 4? This week we are continuing work on Unit 2, La Gente de Guatemala. Just a reminder that as we continue to go through the semester, all units are now 2 weeks, with specific assignments being due each week. Students only have to attend one RLC every two weeks, but are encouraged to attend more than one per unit if they want to. If students were unable to attend an RLC last week, they can still attend an RLC this week. Assignments are due each Monday/Thursday evening at 11:55pm. Last, students are encouraged to work ahead in the class! Students have several assignments due this week, including a Final Project for Unit 2. Final Projects count 20% of a student's grade. Below is a list of what is due this week.

There is one more opportunity this week to attend a Required Live Class for Unit 2, tomorrow night (Tuesday, February 19 @ 7pm.)

I strongly encourage students to attend the Required Live Classes (RLC), but if a student is unable to attend one of the Required Live Classes, I will include the link to my recorded RLC in my announcements after the last RLC is completed for the Unit.
No points are taken off for watching the archive.

How are grades calculated?

I will be contacting parents this week to update you on your student's progress.

HOW CAN YOU HELP AS A PARENT?

1. Ask your students how they are doing, what they are doing (which assignment/s) and what they are learning. Ask them to answer specific questions around what they are learning.

2. Have your students show you their grades (they are available 24/7), get/use the parent/observer access (sent out in each newsletter) OR have them give you their log-in info., so you can check in on them anytime. You just click on "Grades" in the left-hand sidebar.

3. Does your student have a smartphone? If so, make sure that (s)he has downloaded the Canvas Student App!

As you probably know, students are not always forthcoming/proactive, so ask them!
