CSHS Weekly Bulletin
August 20-August 25, 2018
Let's Roll!
Dear Cougar Family,
While our time together as a Cougar family was more limited than ever in this August's professional learning schedule, and while I know every time we turn around it feels like something "new and wonderful' is being added to our plates, I want to take a moment to remind us all of the way we felt at the end of our Relational Practices training last Thursday--excited, rejuvenated, and ready to start the year by focusing on what is most important: RELATIONSHIPS!
Here are a few resources you may want to peruse as you make your plans to be intentional about building relationships in your classes not only the first week of school but also throughout the year:
- National Educators for Restorative Practices Teacher Resources
- NERP Handouts from Our Session
- Building Community with Attendance Questions- Edutopia (Thanks, Vanita!)
- Relationships Matter More Than Rules- Edutopia
- Cougar Qualities Printables
I also want to share this video of an interview with the Canlis Brothers regarding customer service. While we are not restauranteurs--we are certainly in the customer service business, and so much of their philosophy mirrors ours! I know many of you saw this during your departmental meetings, but if you didn't it is definitely worth watching (even though it is a longer one). Remember, core values come at a cost--such as sacrificing time on content to build relationships and to teach the Cougar Qualities and giving up autonomy to reinforce common expectations of our students.
We have a tremendous opportunity before us to impact the lives of students (and one another) as we embark into the 2018-19 school year! I can't wait to see what awaits for all of our learners as we launch the year by providing our students opportunities to truly experience excellence and to CONNECT with one another BEFORE learning content.
Welcome back! And, as always, COUGAR PRIDE!
Tiffany
First Day of School Logistics
Please be reminded that all students are to be directed to the cafeteria, 1st floor commons/halls, 2nd floor seating area before school each day. We will ring the first bell at 8:15 AM releasing the students into the entire building. First period will begin at 8:25 AM. (A warning bell will sound at 8:24 AM.)
On the first day of school…before 8:25 AM:
- ALL students must secure an updated schedule (lavender paper) from the auxiliary gym.
- Students who have not paid for an ID are to report to the attendance window. Some new students will have a CSHS lanyard with a paper ID tag until their permanent ID comes in.
- Students who need to complete the registration process should report to the counselor’s office.
- Staff IDs were placed in your box on Friday. Make sure you are wearing yours.
Please handle tardies with discretion the first two days of school. In other words, allow for students to be late as they find their way around the building. As with dress code violations and ID violations, we will begin official enforcement of tardies on Wednesday.
Please remind students that in addition to the main stairwell in the commons (stairwells 3 and 4) stairwells 1 and 2 are open for use.. Stairwell 1 is located on the west end of the building at the end of the SPED (1st floor), FL (2nd floor), and SS (3rd floor) departments. Stairwell 2 is located on the east end of the building at the end of the office (1st floor), ELA (2nd floor), and math (3rd floor.)
You may dress professionally or wear a staff polo with slacks for the first day of school.
Counselor's Corner: Schedule Changes
Please only send kids to the counselor’s office if they have a hole in their schedule, are in a class they have already passed, or are double-scheduled for a specific subject or class period.
Do not tell students you have room in other class periods. The master schedule is far more complex than just your rosters and classes--just because they could move among your classes, it does not mean there is room elsewhere.

Other Reminders
Please be reminded that lesson plans are to be posted in your department Schoology course by 8:00 AM every Monday.
Please submit your course syllabi via your department Schoology course as well. Multiple attachments may be submitted at the same time. These are due by the end of the first week of school.
A list of faculty and corresponding phone extensions were emailed out by Victoria on Friday. We will put copies in boxes this week.
Are you a club sponsor? Please let Mrs. Parkerson know when you will be having your first meeting for interested students so it can be announced and posted on the CSHS FB page. Please plan initial meetings within the first three weeks of school, so we can get students involved early.
Workroom volunteers are available to assist with copying/laminating request. Request forms can be located in the workroom (rm. 1039). Submit requests to the appropriate bin in the workroom and requested jobs will be returned upon completion.
If you need a class set of textbooks, please let Ms. Reismeier know which books you need and how many.
