0HVA 2018 Student Expos!
OHVA Students Soar!
OHVA has future engineers, artists, photographers, videographers, scientists, historians, writers, geologists, biologists, researchers, actors, athletes... and the list goes on and on!
After walking around talking to the students, observing the displays and reading each paper and story, a security officer at the Dayton library location reported to the host, "These are some of the sharpest, articulate and passionate kids I have ever met! They warm my heart. I never heard of OHVA, but I will be talking about it and these kids from this day forward. Our future is brighter than I thought."
Students, you are impressive! Whether you had a single piece to display or a whole portfolio, you were the one who made your expo piece come to life for us. It was so exciting to see your passion and to get to know you through your project. OHVA has talented, gifted and passionate students.
Thank you for participating and for representing OHVA. Know that YOU are always the pride of Ohio Virtual Academy!
These events are opportunities to gather with local OHVA families to CELEBRATE & CONNECT while enjoying a fun location. Our hosts have chosen locations that will engage all ages K-12. We are especially looking for our Middle and High School students to show up in great numbers!
There are over 30 events around our state, so find one near you and take the time to CELEBRATE!
See you there!
Build confidence for testing!
Did you know that our state tests are done on the computer? Help your student with typing practice below.
Did you know that state test questions often have multiple parts? It's important to help your student become familiar with the format, and they may have to scroll up and down pages to access the parts of a question.
Did you know that students should know how to use a calculator online? These are provided in the tests for 6th grade and up, and may be unfamiliar, so make sure to expose your student to how these work.
Did you know that students can use scratch paper? Just because the test is on a computer does not mean that students should do everything "in their head."
Did you know that your attitude toward testing will positively or negatively impact your student? Do your best to be positive and explain that testing has a purpose, and the student should do their best.
Did you know that testing is not a "bubble" test anymore? Your memory of testing in school is not what our students do today! All students are asked to think, reason, write, and explain on state tests. Give them practice with writing our their thinking.
