Wayland Union High School

February 2021

Dear Wildcat Families,

Wayland High School staff is preparing to welcome all of our students who are currently in the Hybrid Model back to school full time starting Monday, February 15, 2021. We would like to share some information with you to ensure that all students are prepared for what their day will look like while we transition to full time face to face instruction.

Enhanced Remote Wednesdays and Drop in Study Hall

  • Wednesday, February 3rd, 2021 was the last Wednesday that we'll follow the Enhanced Remote Wednesday schedule and hold Drop In Study Hall.
  • Our staff will be using Wednesday, February 10th, to prepare for the return of all students to face to face instruction.
  • Staff will have their office hours posted; however, Zoom sessions are cancelled for Wednesday, February 10th. Students can use their time on that day to catch up on missing work, read, or participate in a physical activity at home.

Safety Protocols

  • Face masks required, by all staff and students, at all times indoors, except during meals or with approved medical exemption.
  • Face masks worn as specified by CDC: multiple-layer mask covering nose and mouth at all times, except meals and/or with approved medical exemption
  • Face masks must be worn properly according to CDC recommendations. Double-to-triple layer gaiters are permitted; however, face masks with ventilation (or vents) are not.
  • Parents who believe their child may be eligible for a face mask exemption, should complete and submit the following form to their child’s building principal: https://waylandunion.org/downloads/covid-19/mask_exemption_wayland_union_schools.pdf.

  • Social distancing, to the extent possible, in each setting

Cafeteria Plan

We are in the process of creating a plan that will continue to reinforce social distancing to the best of our ability during each lunch period.

Winter Sports

Boys and Girls Basketball, Wrestling and Competitive Cheer will begin contact practices on Monday, February 8th. We are still waiting to hear from the MHSAA for our first contest dates for these sports and also what or if there will be an antigen testing regimen. More information to come for these three sports. Boys Swimming has been practicing since January 18th and have competed in 3 meets. We are starting our conference schedule in Boys swimming and the conference meet will take place March 12-13, Bowling also started practice on January 18th and are in the middle of their conference schedule with the Conference meet on March 13th. We are also starting an Esports team and if you are interested in joining please stop in the athletic office. The pre-season is starting in the next couple of weeks with the spring season to follow.

Sign ups have started for spring sports. Please stop into the athletic office or find a QR code around the building for the sport you are interested in. Please contact Mr. Moffett or Mrs. Bonte in the athletic office if you have any questions. (moffettm@waylandunion.org or bontea@waylandunion.org)

Thank you again for your continued support this year. We will continue to do our best to implement safety measures that will minimize the need to contact trace; however, it is likely that will still be necessary. We look forward to continuing our partnership with you as we enter the final phase of our Return to School Plan! It’s a great day to be a Wildcat!

Respectfully,

Tom Cutler, Principal
