Mrs Melissa Billy-Rooney, our Indigenous Liaison Officer, has been appointed to the position of Transforming Lives Engagement Officer. This exciting opportunity will see Melissa support four Catholic schools as they enact CEWA’s system-wide initiative of Transforming Lives: Strategy 2025. I congratulate Melissa on her appointment to this important position and thank her for the contribution she has made to our school community.

Miss Montana Beeken has been our 1B Teacher this semester, alongside Mrs Gabrielle D’Agnone-Doyle. I thank Montana for the dedicated way that she has undertaken her work with the 1B students this semester.

Mrs Louell Renzullo has been our second Administration Officer this semester. I thank Louell for her contribution to our school during this time.

Ms Anne Tankersley has worked in Year Six this semester as Education Assistant facilitating the MacqLit program. I thank Anne for the work that she has done with our Year Six students this year.

We welcome Mrs Erica Mason back from maternity leave at the beginning of Term Three. Erica will return to St Brigid’s in a part-time capacity for the rest of the school year, working in 1B, alongside Mrs Gabrielle D’Agnone-Doyle.

Mrs Geraldine Nolan has been appointed as Administration Officer and commenced this role this week. Geraldine will work alongside Lucy Siciliano in the office. Welcome, Geraldine!


I congratulate Mrs Rhianna Shirren and her husband Liam, along with Mr Michael Sheridan and his wife Amanda on their exciting news. Later this year, Rhianna and Liam will welcome their first child. Michael and Amanda will welcome their third child. Congratulations!

Mrs Rhianna Shirren will be finishing at St Brigid's Primary School at the end of Term Three, as she prepares for the exciting arrival. The appointment process for a Year 4B Teacher for Term Four has taken place. I am pleased to announce that Ms Miranda Peters has been appointed to this position for Term Four 2020. Miranda returns to our school community after working here from 2014-2017, with three of those years as a Year 4 Teacher.


Over the course of this term, I have enjoyed interviewing families for Pre-Kindy and Kindy 2021. Places for both programs are filling up fast. If you are interested in enrolling your child for Pre-Kindy or Kindy next year, I encourage you to book an interview time with me through the front office. If you have friends or family who considering educational options for their child next year, I ask that you recommend our school as an option.


Our 2020 Pre-Kindy program is now at full capacity, with a waitlist. If you know of anyone interested in joining Pre-Kindy this year, please ask them to contact the office so we can place their name on the waitlist. We are currently investigating the possibility of a second Pre-Kindy day for next semester. This decision will be based on the interest from our current families and those on the waitlist. This term has seen our Pre-Kindy enrolments double and I congratulate Mrs Gabrielle D’Agnone-Doyle (Teacher) and Mrs Leanne Bailey (Education Assistant) for the work they have done over the last twelve months to help build this wonderful program.


School systems and sectors across the country have been offered flexibility in relation to reporting for Semester One 2020. The reporting and requirements for reporting for Pre-Primary to Year 10, due to COVID-19 and the disruption to learning and teaching, have been amended. On 7 April 2020, the Education Council agreed that, ‘student progress will continue to be monitored and assessed by teachers with progress reports provided to parents and carers noting that existing assessment and reporting processes may have to be adjusted to accommodate broader changes to the teaching and learning environment.’

In reporting for Semester One, schools are required to provide to parents:

  1. Information which gives an accurate and objective assessment of the student's progress and achievement, report on the curriculum taught and for which teachers can make a fair and reasonable professional judgement regarding student progress. Schools are not required to report student achievement using the A, B, C, D and E
  2. Schools should include some information regarding effective domains such as attitude, behaviour and effort. In giving feedback to parents, teachers have an opportunity ot acknowledge the way in which students have coped with the challenges presented by the disruptions of COVID-19.

Therefore, in St Brigid’s Primary School Semester One Reports 2020, all students from Pre-Primary to Year 6 will be receiving the same report format.

Every learning area will be reported on using the three-point student progress scale:

  • Above Expected Level
  • At Expected Level
  • Working Towards Expected Level

Please also note:

  • Every child will receive a General Comment. Included in this comment will be areas of concern for Mathematics and English, that were not already included in Student Summary Sheets and discussed in subsequent meetings.
  • Student reports will be made available to parents via SEQTA Engage on Friday 3 July.
  • Students working from an Individual Learning Plan (IEP) will have their IEP goals reported within their IEP document. This will also be available to parents via SEQTA Engage on Friday 3 July
  • Parents are welcome to arrange a meeting with their child's teacher to discuss their child's report when school resumes next term, should this be reqiured.
  • The school will not print reports for parents. Please do not ask staff to do this, as they will politely decline your request. If you are having issues accessing SEQTA Engage, please email:

Last week we held our first P&F meeting in quite some time, due to COVID-19 restrictions. It was great to come back together and brainstorm ideas for our school community moving forward. Our next P&F meeting will take place on Wednesday 22 July from 9:00-10:00am. As always, I invite parents and caregivers along.

I conclude the final newsletter for Term Two by thanking all members of our school community.

I thank our staff for the work they have done throughout this semester to provide a great learning environment for our students. Our staff have been adaptable, committed, and flexible during what has been a challenging semester.

I thank our students for their continued work this semester. Our students make our school the wonderful place that it is. I am so proud of the resilience that our students have displayed this semester and the commitment that they have given to their learning, whether that be at school or at home.

I thank our parents and caregivers for their continued support. Your ongoing support and feedback is valued and appreciated.

With the lifting of more COVID 19 restrictions, the Archbishop of Perth, Timothy Costello, has informed Parishes that the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Eucharist can now be celebrated again. This is a very pleasing outcome! Following, are the new dates for 2020:

Teachers are currently working on the completion of semester one reports. This week, I would like to share with you some information on the curriculum within Catholic schools, and ways parents can support their children through school.

As has been highlighted many times before, collaboration between home and school is vital in providing our students at St Brigid’s Primary School with the best possible educational advantages and it is an area that we are always endeavouring to improve.

The curriculum is the program of teaching and learning that leads to desired educational outcomes. Catholic schools follow the same curriculum as government schools; however, there is a religious dimension in everything that is taught in a Catholic school. This creates the additional and most important learning area of Religious Education.

How is the Curriculum Organised?

St Brigid’s Primary School implements the Kindergarten to Year 10 Western Australian Curriculum and Assessment Guidleines to meet the learning needs of all students. The Western Australian Curriculum is based on the Australian Curriculum. It has been designed to meet the specific needs of students in Western Australia. Subjects are grouped in key learning areas and teachers within our Catholic schools refer to the Western Australian Curriculum (English, Mathematics, Science and HASS) and other documents to develop their teaching programs. Schools and teachers are responsible for organising student learning. To effectively deliver the curriculum, teachers respond to their students’ needs and interests, which inform their approach to teaching, learning and assessment.

How does the Pre-Primary to Year 10 curriculum work?

Schools use the Western Australian curriculum for Pre-Primary to Year 10 to:

  • plan student learning programs,
  • assess student progress, and
  • report student achievement to parents.

The Western Australian Curriculum outlines the content for students to be taught each year. It is designed to be coherent and comprehensive. Achievement standards describe expected student performance in relation to the curriculum content for each year level.

The curriculum is organised into nine learning areas. Each learning area contains a year-level syllabus. This syllabus includes a year-level description, specific curriculum content and the Achievement Standard for each year of schooling, from Pre-Primary to Year 10.


Subjects and courses taught in schools today are outcomes based; that is, they are given direction by clear descriptions of what students should know, understand and value and be able to do as a result of the learning experience provided by the teachers at the school.

Outcomes are explicit statements of what students must demonstrate to show they have achieved the required knowledge and skills. Each learning area lists specific outcomes that students must cover over the years of K – 12. Teachers then use a range of fair, valid, explicit and comprehensive assessment processes to inform and evaluate the progress of student learning against the outcome prescribed for the particular learning area. This is how the student’s achievement levels are determined for each learning area. Teachers also make comments on the effort a child has applied to their learning for a particular learning area.

If you would like to order uniforms for your children you can download an order form from our website or from the link below then email your order to: Jo will then process your order during uniform shop hours being: Monday and Friday mornings from 8am to 9.30am and Wednesday afternoons from 2.30pm to 4.00pm.

PLEASE NOTE: We are having issues with obtaining some stock due to the current global situation.. We have found ourselves without size 6 track pants and size 8 track top and pants and at this stage we are uncertain of when these items will be restocked by our supplier..


Due to Covid-19, delivery delays book club orders still have not arrived. Orders will be given to students as soon as we receive them. This should hopefully take place next term.

We have been lucky to secure a date for this year's Sausage Sizzle fundraiser at Midland Bunnings. This is being held on the 24th October - so still a long way till then, but just in case you would like to pop this in your calendar. We will be looking for helpers on the day, and we always appreciate our school community coming along and supporting our school by popping down to grab a sausage sizzle or two.


Gilberts Fresh - register for a shopping card and with every shop, Gilberts will then donate back 1% of the money spent by you to our school. And they have some great fruit and veg!

Midland IGA - With each shop you can request that your shopping amount be added to St Brigids Primary School. This then adds up over the year and IGA present the school with a cheque at the end of the year.

Athletes Foot - The School Rewards Program is a great fundraising opportunity, with $5 from every pair of shoes purchased being donated back to your school. This applies for each pair of shoes purchased for the whole family, across the complete in store range of adults and/or kids sports, school, work and casual shoes.

Ponytails and Fairytales

Hair accessories to suit both school uniform and faction colours. Letters will be going out in the next few weeks giving you the opportunity to purchase some beautiful accessories which in turn helps fundraise for your school
