Letter from the Coordinator

The Vail Governing Board approved to move all schools in our district to

Remote Learning as a mitigation strategy to the pandemic. This temporary transition to remote learning will be from January 4th through January 25th.

During this time, we will have scheduled office hours. Please click here to make an appointment if you need to come into the school for any reason.

Hello amazing VIC Families!

We are very excited to be starting our Spring Semester with all of you. We had a pretty remarkable first semester with all of our new students, teachers, and staff joining us. Thank you all for making that such a special and productive time. All new classes are being loaded this week and teachers will be reaching out to introduce themselves and welcome you to their classes. In addition, please carefully read through this newsletter, as it reviews many of the expectations for attending the VIC.

A special thank you to all of the learning guides for the students. The VIC truly depends on parents and learning guides to help support students in their learning alongside the teachers. Remember, the students’ teachers are an email away.

Special Reminders

  • All students need to be working a minimum of 5 days a week to complete their courses on time. There are course maps for you to utilize as a tool for success with completing assignments on time.

  • 6-12 grade students should ONLY use your school email account to communicate with your teachers **Do not use the Edmentum messaging system. Remember your teachers have 24 hours to respond to your school email messages.

  • You should be working a minimum of 1 hour per class per day to meet the timing requirements.

  • Tutoring sessions are available if your student is struggling. Please be sure to look at the tutoring schedule and use those links to attend virtually. Our teachers are looking forward to seeing and helping you!

  • Your course is made up of multiple units. Within each unit, there are subsections and topics which often include a tutorial, activities/practice, and/or a mastery test. Mastery tests can be retaken up to 3 times, but you must redo the tutorial first and then the program will unlock the mastery test again for another attempt. Edmentum will count your highest score.

  • When you get to the Post Test please reach out to your teacher through email to unlock it for you.

Students that are behind:

Middle School Students:

You have until Friday, January 8th at 3:00 pm to complete your courses from the first semester. On Friday, we will enter 0’s for all modules that are incomplete, and we will close out these course(s) with your current grade as they stand.

High School Students:

If you are not finished by Friday, January 8th at 3:00 pm with your first semester classes, you will need to purchase an extension. This is a three-week extension for $30 that will need to be purchased for each incomplete class. To pay your $30 extension fee acceptable forms of payment include cash, check, or money orders payable to Vail Innovation Center or you can call the Vail School District Office Accounts Payable Department at 520-879-2000 to pay by credit card over the phone. You will need to let them know you are paying your student’s extension fee for their online class. Once you have made the payment online, please email Mrs. Devaughn devaughnj@vailschooldistrict.org a copy of the receipt so we can change the end date and turn the class back on if it has been disabled.

Here are some tips from current VIC Students and Teachers:

“To succeed with VIC is to do the guided notes religiously and to do about 1/2 of the tutorial for each class each day. Staying on track is key!! Having the guided notes to take the mastery and unit tests really help.” - Caiden Mott, a 7th-grade student at the VIC

“When things get difficult, email your teacher. It is always good to explain what you need help with, the teachers have always helped me quickly to understand the material.” - Anonymous HS student

“The best advice I have for you is to take notes while you are working through the tutorials. Once in a tutorial, on the left-hand column, choose “resources,” then “guided notes.” Print these guided notes, and fill them out as you work through the tutorial. Then, you can use these notes during the mastery and post-tests! Write down key vocabulary and example problems to refer back to. This will help you remember the material more easily.” - Mrs. Whitt, a VIC teacher

Thank you all and Happy New Year!

Senior Exit Project (SEP) Information Update 1/5/21

Hello Seniors,

Welcome back seniors, I am hoping everyone had an enjoyable break. Hard to believe that we are halfway through the school year and that graduation is right around the corner. Here are a few dates/issues you need to keep in mind as we get back to school.

1. E-portfolio due February 10th, 2021 by 5:00PM remember that your log for shadowing hours is part of the portfolio. If you chose the non-shadowing pathway please see the illustration below to meet the requirements and have those documents part of your eportfolio as well. Please remember to use WIX for this portion of your SEP and that you send the link for your project to Mr. Ogden or Ms. Wrona.

2. Presentations will be March 3rd, 2021 and at this time we are working on how you will present (virtual/in person). Just as soon as a determination has been made you will be notified.

Finally, please remember to stay on track with your classes, you are too close to graduation to fall behind and graduation will be here before you know it! Again welcome back and looking forward to working with you as you complete your Senior year. As always should you have any questions or concerns contact me or Ms. Wrona.

FASFA - Free Application for Federal Student Aid

Seniors! It is time to start thinking about paying for college! The FAFSA is the best place to start. Let’s start with a little bit about what the FAFSA actually is. FAFSA stands for Free Application for Federal Student Aid; translation: it determines a student's eligibility for need-based federal financial aid for college, which may include grants, scholarships, work-study and loans. If eligible, it can really help you pay for school!
