News from Ms. Hess
In literacy, we read fairy tales that were new to us such as The Seven Ravens and The Rough Faced Girl. Fifth graders learned that fairy tales appeal to their sense of danger and darkness - not at all like the Disney stories! We read another fairy tale with a partner to compare and contrast with one of our shared reads.
Writers worked with a partner to write a collaborative spook story including personification and an idiom. This week, we read these aloud in the dark with flashlights. We even had shadow actors to act out our creativity!
We continued our work in science exploring chemical changes. It was so fun to watch their reactions of mixing citric acid, baking soda and water in a bag only to see that the gas that gets trapped nearly pops the bag! So fun!
A HUGE thank you to our room parents who helped to create a spectacularly fun party and wonderful foods. It was surely a party that will be remembered for years to come!
