Pies and Cookies!
One of the traditions that our teachers have really come to look forward to and love each year is getting Thanksgiving Pies. Instead of a teacher luncheon in November and December, the PTO gives pies at Thanksgiving and cookies in December. If you are a baker, OR an expert shopper at HEB, our faculty always appreciates your pies and cookies!

We had a great week at LVMS, and here are a few of the best things I've seen...

Working Through Word Problems
In Mrs. Dement's 6th grade math class, there were word problems taped in different places around the room. The students would work in partners to solve, and then check their answers with Mrs. Dement. The students showed great problem solving skills!

Girls Basketball Opens In Johnson City
From Coach Sosa:
The 7th Grade B Team lost 8-16. We only had four practices prior to our game and 99% of our players have never played basketball. I am very proud of the girls and their first game.
Emily Caperton scored 6 points
Sarah Conine scored 2 points
The 7th Grade A Team lost 20-22. We only had 5 players. We have a very small 7th grade team and will do some balancing for future games. These 5 ladies played the entire 4 quarters of the game, only taking breaks during the timeout periods, quarters, and half time.
Emma Clark scored 6 points
Kendall Karg scored 4 points
Ariana Steele scored 1 point
Addison Lockhart scored 5 points
Reagan Phariss scored 4 points
From Coach D:
The 8th Grade Lady Vikings Basketball Team played their first game played against the Lady Eagles in Johnson City. The girls practiced hard and learned so much in a short amount of time to prepare themselves for this challenge. I believe their hard work paid off.
The 8th Grade B Team came out strong with a solid offense and rebounding, but Johnson City took the lead 6-2 at the end of the first quarter. However, the Lady Vikings turned up the defense for the rest of the game and Johnson City did not score another basket! Lago scored 2 more baskets in the 3rd quarter, tying the game at 6-6. Though the Lady Vikings were putting up a lot of great shots, the baskets were not falling and we remained scoreless in the 4th quarter and in the suspenseful double overtime the Lady Vikings played. The game ended in a tie of 6-6. There was a lot to take away from this first game, but I could not be more proud or more excited for what the rest of this season holds for the B team.
Maddie Patterson, Ava Girard, and Kayla Rickels all scored 2 points.
The 8th Grade A Team came, saw, and conquered the Johnson City Lady Eagles. Lago set the tone with our powerful press and defense to quickly rack up steals and baskets. Their smart decision making on offense also helped add to the score. At the half the Lady Vikings led 28 to 8. They kept the pace going in the second half and did let up. Lago won the game, 39 to 22. A great start to what I see as a very exciting winning season! Great job Lady Vikings!
Sophia Reed scored 21 points, Crosby Curtis scored 11 points, Saydie Kassell scored 4 points, Maya Ramsey scored 2 points, and CJ Hood scored 1 point.

It's Getting Cold...Does Your Child Need A Coat?
Viking Night at the Grille is THIS Wednesday Night, November 14th!
For those who don't know, Lago Vista ISD is extremely fortunate to have a very active education foundation. The Lago Vista ISD Education Foundationraises and awards thousands of dollars in grant funds each year to support our teachers and students.
There are LOTS of ways to support the LVISDEF (e.g., Amazon Smile, payroll deductions, PayPal, etc.), but a super easy way is to dine at The Grille at Highland Lakes on Wednesday, November 14th. Simply tell your server that you are there to support Lago Vista ISD and TWENTY PERCENT of your bill will be donated to the LVISDEF.
Awesome!

Tutorials?
Meet Our Staff! All of our teachers at LVMS are amazing and we want you to get to know them a little bit better! Each week we will interview two staff members(just one this week!) with some basic questions as well as some questions that were requested by students.
Rachael Morrow, 7th Grade English Language Arts
Where are you originally from?
I am originally from Southwest Arkansas, but I have been a Texas resident all my adult life and I have lived in Liberty Hill for a total of six years .
What led you to want to be a teacher? How long have you been in education?
I have been a teacher for fifteen years. I originally wanted to be a counselor, but you had to teach before entering the program. When I was in school, I liked math and English, but I thought ELA would be more fun to teach because we get to tell stories and use music and film. I ended up getting my Master's degree in Teacher Leadership instead of counseling, but I still feel like I get to do some counseling-related activities as a teacher.
Tell us about your family.
I am married to Captain America, my Super-Soldier high-school sweetheart. We have three sons, Cayden (11), Chason (9), and Collier (4). We both come from large families with lots of boys. I have one younger brother. My husband is the youngest of five boys and is a twin. Naturally, we had ALL boys!
What are your favorite hobbies?
I love to shop, read in coffee shops, go to concerts, ride my bike, and go day tripping with my boys. We never stay home and are always exploring the Austin area.
What is something you are looking forward to?
As much as I love my job and kids, I look forward to Saturdays because I also love sleep!
What is your favorite book you've ever read?
My favorite book to read to students is The Outsiders; however, there are WAY too many books I personally love. I like dark classic literature (like Poe) and realistic, historical fiction, so The Scarlet Letter was probably the book that started my status as a literature fangirl.
What is your favorite band?
That's like asking my favorite food; it depends on the genre. I love all types of music except contemporary country. In Christian music, my favorites are Mercy Me and NeedtoBreathe; however, rock is probably my all-time favorite genre. I love classic rock like Queen and Lynyrd Skynyrd, 90's alternative bands like Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden, and Pearl Jam, and more modern rock bands like Breaking Benjamin, Three Days Grace, and Seether. I love good guitar playing, so getting to see Slash perform a couple times was huge for me. You can tell music is my favorite subject!
