A Message from Dr. Bearden
Today was Dot Day! Students and staff were wearing dots and the students' dot artwork hung every where (all 715 pieces of artwork)! SHE Dot day activities aligned with International Dot Day, which is September 15th. Since International Dot Day fell on a Sunday, we scheduled our day a little early. Clck The Dot, to hear Dr. Bearden read the book which inspired an International movement.
Speaking of a movement, #SHEShares is our school focus on how we can help others. I talk about, list, and update our #SHEShares projects in HH each month. However, I want to give some kudos to our specials teachers because they are taking a lead role in #SHEShares by informing and involving our Huskies in spotlighting special events each month. For example, September is a spotlight awareness month for Hispanic Heritage, 9/11, and Childhood Cancers, among other special events. In our specials classes, teachers were incorporating Hispanic History and Culture information within their lessons throughout the month. Great Job, Teachers and we look forward to upcoming months!
Some other September #SHEShares events: On Wednesday, 9/11, our staff and students were dressed in red, white, and blue! For Childhood Cancers, our PTO will help us collect spare change, which will be donated to the American Cancer Association in support of childhood cancer research. Please consider allowing your Husky to bring in spare change to donate!
I want to take a moment to thank our families, who use school buses to and from SHE! Due to a shortage of bus drivers, a couple of our buses have had substitute drivers (including transportation leaders and supervisors). For some families, this has meant some hiccups and occasionally a stop missed, which can be scary for parents and students. Our families have been very understanding and flexible and I appreciate you! I will continue to monitor all buses and, when issues arise, I will keep families as up to date with communication as possible. We hope that all buses will have permanent drivers very soon and appreciate all that transportation leaders and supervisors are doing to make this happen.
I hope that you all have a very nice weekend!! Lorrie
