To our community
As a school we are devastated by the tragic loss of life that occurred last night at the the Rose Cottage Superette on Fowlds Ave. This store is an iconic part of our school community that I’m sure you’re all familiar with. It is an establishment with close ties to the school and is frequented by many members of the Edendale community.
On behalf of the school I’d like to express our deepest sympathies to the whānau of the victim, including the owners of the business who many of you will know well.
We are a community in grief and shock and I ask we all support each other during this difficult time. There will be a lot of children struggling to process this event, especially with the visible police presence in our neighbourhood and an offender still at large. They will have many questions and may be anxious, and I want to reassure you we are doing all we can to support our tamariki, the family involved and the wider Edendale community.
If you have any particular concerns regarding how news of this tragedy might be affecting your child/ren, please get in touch with the senior leadership team so we are aware.

Leadership Team message from Marg
Kia ora koutou,
It is week six and we have three more weeks of solid learning ahead of us. A gentle reminder that the last day of school is Thursday 15 December, finishing at 1:00pm.
The Year 5 and 6 students are getting ready for their camps at Chosen Valley in Ararimu. They are taking place in week 8 (week beginning 5 December). Camp is an experience students reflect upon for years to come, as they push themselves out of their comfort zones in many ways and discover things about themselves that help set them up positively in all areas of their lives. A massive thanks in advance to all of the parents volunteering to attend camp.
We have been audited this week for our progress on our ‘Positive Behaviour for Learning’ (PB4L) journey and it is so good to reflect on the mahi all have contributed to PB4L across the Edendale staff, student body and wider whānau and community. Our values provide the context for our PB4L lesson plans and we aim to have a shared language and shared expectations about how our Edendale staff and tamariki engage with one another, and with our environment as a result of this mahi.
Most recently Braedon, House Leaders and the PB4L team have launched our house points system, where students can be awarded points for genuinely displaying our school values;
Auahatanga - Innovation
Aumangea - Resilience
Kotahitanga - Inclusiveness
Whakaute - Respect
The talent shows have been a big hit with students this week and it has really highlighted just how courageous, resilient, creative and collaborative our students are. It is also a window into the talents our students are honing through the support of our itinerant teachers here at Edendale, and through their own efforts at home, so a real team effort.

We need your help!
A gentle reminder that if your child is absent from school, please email firstname.lastname@example.org, phone 846 6340 or advise via our school app before 8:45am.
At the moment, we're currently spending upwards of an hour following up with families why their child/ren are away from school, where this time could be better spent.

National Kungfu-Wushu Championships
On 12 November, a group of students participated in the National Kungfu-Wushu Championships in the inter-school category. They received a cup for completing their demonstration with flying colours (group performance).
We are super proud of their achievement and there was a special mention from the organisers about how kind and helpful the Edendale team was.
Thank you NZ Wushu for giving us this opportunity.

Do you have a spare room and need some extra money for next year?
Edendale has been lucky enough to secure a Mandarin language assistant to work at the school in 2023.
This person is needing some accommodation for the year, a bedroom preferably in the school community. The amount payable is around $350.00.
If you would be interested in hosting this person please email email@example.com
Please put the date of the AGM in your calendars… it’s the final meeting of the year and will be held on Thursday 1 December at 7:00pm. We will elect next year’s key roles and discuss ideas for events. Everyone is welcome, it’s a great chance to see what we are all about.
If you would like to talk about any of our roles, or the PTA in general, please get in touch with Roni for a chat, 021 454 882 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
