Wilkshire Bucket Fillers

What is Bucket Filling?

Actions or words that show you care about someone. Saying or doing something kind. Giving someone a heartfelt smile. Using names with respect. Helping without being asked. Giving sincere compliments. Showing respect to others. There are hundreds of wonderful ways to fill buckets. The language of bucket filling has become synonymous with being kind and thoughtful. Your bucket will be filled when at the close of each day you reflect on the ways in which you have filled buckets.

How Does the Bucket Filler Program work at Wilkshire?

During the first few weeks of school, the counselor visits every classroom to read the story "Have You Filled a Bucket Today?" to the class and to lead a discussion about what it means to be a Bucket Filler. Our focus on doing good for others and making positive choices starts on Day 1! The students will create a bucket to keep at home so that when they earn bucket tickets, families can collect and display them.

Students are randomly recognized by adults throughout the school when they are caught filling someone's bucket, either by an act of kindness, or by setting a positive example by following school rules. These students receive Bucket Filler slips. Then, the child is invited to add a pom pom to their classroom bucket. This provides a visual for the class each day about how their kindness fills a bucket. Bucket Filler slips are sent home with the student the day they earn them. Bucket Filler slips help us not only recognize the student, but also communicate their positive actions with their family.

Each week, the class adds their pom poms from their classroom bucket to our large schoolwide bucket in the cafeteria. On Fridays, two students from each class who were Bucket Fillers are selected and those students are recognized on the announcements for their positive behavior. Students chosen receive a special pencil and sticker from the principal and other staff members..

Once a month, all students come together for a Bucket Filler assembly. Students and staff celebrate a month full of acts of kindness and great behavior. Students are congratulated on filling the large schoolwide bucket. Then, an announcement is made for a schoolwide celebration of all the great Bucket Filling for the month.

Our goal is to let students know that their actions are noticed and appreciated. Our staff members also strive to be Bucket Fillers and lead by example, so don't hesitate to let them know if they fill your bucket while you're at Wilkshire!

How to Give Credit

Early Pick Up, Late Drop Off or Transportation Changes

Whether you are picking your child up early or dropping them off late, we require a parent or guardian to come into the office and sign them out or in. We also require anyone entering our building to show a pictured ID.

We understand your schedule can change, so if you need to make a change to the daily transportation for your child, please call the office. We request transportation changes are made by 2:00 p.m. so we can coordinate our internal communication and logistics to ensure a smooth change. We also ask that if you pick your student up early, please do so before 2:45 p.m. to avoid the congestion during school dismissal and Curbside Pick Up.

Wilkshire Class T-Shirts

At Wilkshire, class t-shirts are a big deal and students love wearing them! Teachers encourage students to wear their class t-shirt when we have Bucket assemblies, Fitness Day and other school event celebrations or activities. It's time to order your child's class t-shirt. This year we're making it easy with online ordering, and we're using a local Haslett family owned business - TShirt Goods! TShirt Goods provides quality apparel at reasonable prices, and will donate a portion of its profits back to Wilkshire!

If you do not see your child's classroom t-shirt on this site, please contact the teacher.

Extra Clothes, Please

Accidents happen, especially when student's are in kindergarten and 1st grade. We like to be prepared for wet clothes no matter how it happens. For these occurrences, we are asking parents to pack an extra set of clothes in your child's backpack, including underwear and socks.

Our procedure for wet clothes is to have dry clothes available for student's to change into. We pack up their wet clothes in a plastic bag and send them home. If the clothes are borrowed from Wilkshire, we staple a note to the bag and ask that the items are laundered and returned to Wilkshire.

We do have extra clothes in the office, but we can always use more. If you have children’s clothing you are willing to donate, we will certainly put them to good use!
