Attendance
Even if you email the teacher, you MUST report any absences or late arrivals to the front office! You can call the front office at 317-915-4240 or the direct line for our attendance is 317-915-4248. Thank you!
Lunch Visitors
Please remember to schedule lunch visits by calling 915-4240 between 8:00—9:00 AM the day of. Sorry, no advance lunch reservations can be handled. We have limited space available in the cafeteria so it is important to remember that having lunch with your child is limited to just you and your child to ensure there is enough seating for our other visitors. We also ask that you refrain from taking pictures in the lunchroom as some families have requested that their child NOT have his/her picture taken.
If you would like to purchase a school lunch, you must bring cash or a check for $3.36. The district no longer allows parents to charge their lunch to their child's lunch account.

Volunteers Make a Difference!
One of the many reasons HRE is such an amazing school is all of the fun events we are able to host for the students and families. Volunteers help make this happen. We are in need of volunteers to help co-chair our events throughout the year. Some of these events require minimal planning and are able to be done outside of school hours. Below are a list of events we are seeking co-chairs. If interested please contact Bridget Jensen at bjensen328@yahoo.com.
- Movie Night
- Field Day
- Ice Cream Social
- Dine to Donate

School Directory
We have had a number of parents wanting to find ways to schedule playdates, parties, etc. with their children’s classmates. HSE has made this possible with our Online School Directory. This service is only available for those families that choose to “OPT IN”.
You may select what information you would like other parents to see (such as address, phone numbers) for birthday invitations and the like. If you would like to “OPT IN” please follow the steps below:
- Login to Skyward
- Click on “MY ACCOUNT” tab in the upper right corner
- On the bottom of the page look for the Online Directory
- Choose which information you would like to share
- Click Save
Please note that the only people that will have access to this, are the families at HRE. If you have older children at other schools, their information will only be shared with the families at their school. We hope this will help our students to be able to stay connected outside of school hours.
Background Checks
Hoosier Road Elementary always has many opportunities for parents to become involved. Whether it’s through volunteering in the classroom or a PTO event, attending classroom activities or even eating lunch with your child, you must have a valid background check on file and view the anti-bullying training on-line. Background checks are valid for three years. Please allow up to 6 business days for checks to be completed. Please follow this link for complete directions: http://www.hse.k12.in.us/ADM/parents/volunteering.aspx
We want you to be able to interact with our students but we also need to adhere to strict safety guidelines set forth by our school district. Look for an email from Safe Visitor Solutions which will issue a bar code unique to you. Please bring that bar code (on your phone or on paper) on your first visit to HRE so we may take your photo! Thank you for your compliance and for helping to keep all of our students safe.
Text-A-Tip
Text-A-Tip is a program that allows students, parents or others to anonymously send a text or email message to our school resource officers and school administrators about concerns they may have for their own safety or the safety of others. Text-A-Tip will be actively monitored during the school day. It should not be used for emergencies—Call 911 if you need immediate help. For more information on how to submit a tip please use the link below.
