Lakeview Elementary - We Know Every Child by Name & by Need

April 20, 2018

Hello Lakeview Families!

There are so many celebrations this week on our campus. Our students are growing and learning and we could not be more proud. If you have not had the opportunity to read with your children lately, please do so. They have come so far!

Please read below for important information and dates for the upcoming weeks.

NISD Curriculum Audit Survey

Northwest Independent School District leaders have contracted with an external evaluation team from Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA) to complete a Curriculum Audit. The team will be on site the week of April 30-May 3, 2018 and will be visiting campuses during that time as well as conducting interviews. However, the team will not have the opportunity to speak with everyone in the district. We would like to use the following survey to gather input from as many people as possible. Please take a few minutes to complete this survey so your opinion can be represented.

All answers will remain anonymous and survey information will only be reported in aggregate. Please complete this survey by April 26, 2018.
Thank you very much for your assistance. Your input will provide valuable information for the district.

Enroll Your Child for the 2018-2019 School Year

Beginning Monday, April 16, Northwest ISD’s online enrollment and registration process for the 2018-2019 school year is available. PowerSchool is operating our new process. The week of April 16, parents or guardians of returning students will receive a link and code for their children. Each child will receive a separate code and email. Online enrollment should be completed no later than Tuesday, August 21 prior to the start of school on Monday, August 27.

New student enrollment is ongoing and will remain open throughout the school year. For more information, go to www.nisdtx.org/enrollment. We look forward to continuing our partnership with your family in Northwest ISD.

Moving?

If you will be moving and not returning to Lakeview in the Fall, please email (lakeviewelem@nisdtx.org) or call (871-215-0750) so we will be able to process your student's paperwork.

Camp Invention 2018 Hosted at Lakeview

Camp Invention still needs Leadership Interns (students entering 10-12th grades) to help facilitate Lakeview’s Camp Invention. It’s a great opportunity for high school students to earn community service and it’s an opportunity you can add to those college applications J Below is a description of the intern positions—if you have a student who is interested, please contact Mrs. Andrews (caitlin.andrews@nisdtx.org ) or Tricia Hanson at (thanson@nisdtx.org ).

PTA Remind 101 Account

We wanted to let you know about a new way to help you stay connected to the latest Lakeview PTA news. We’ve set-up a Remind 101 account just for the PTA. If you aren’t familiar, Remind 101 allows you to sign up to receive texts from a specific group. We love the idea that we can quickly get information out to our parents. Compulsory Attendance

We understand students miss school for various reasons. However, please understand that if your child has missed more than 8 school days (excused or unexcused) you will receive a letter from Lakeview regarding attendance. As the state requires students to be in attendance 90% of the year, Lakeview will continue to follow state guidelines regarding this issue. If you have any questions we are happy to talk you through the process.

Absence notes are due no more than 3 days after the date of the absent. After 3 days, the absence will be marked as unexcused.

Ride Changes

Big picture
Parents please be sure to send an email to LakeviewElem@nisdtx.org and your child's teacher by 1:00pm to communicate ride changes. We will not release students to ride changes without confirmation from parents regarding ride changes.

Birthday Treats

Big picture
We love celebrating birthdays with our students! When planning on bringing in birthday treats, only pre-packaged store bought products are allowed. To ensure there is time to distribute birthday treats to classrooms, please have them in the office no later than 2:00. We are unable to hold ice cream or popsicles so please do not send treats that will melt. Also, if a treat does not have a label of ingredients it will not be shared with the class. Due to allergies we must know the ingredients for ALL treats. Due to sensitivity no balloons are allowed in the building.

Facebook and Social Media

Social media is a great way to keep up with and in contact with friends and family. When you are posting regarding Lakeview, please keep a few things in mind:

1. Think before you post, your words have power.

2.Do not post pictures or information of children who are not yours. Privacy is important so do not post pictures or information about other students without parent permission.

3. If you have a question regarding events or information regarding Lakeview, your best bet is to always email your child's teacher or call the front office.

4. If you are unhappy with a situation or would like to share a concern, please always email your child's teacher or contact our front office.

5. Finally, stay positive. No one benefits when community members disagree on line.
