VI STUDENT OUTING
Mckinney ISD’s Chestnut square and Hugs Café Outing
Students who participated in this activity had an opportunity to use their auditory, tactual and existing visual skills to learn about life in Collin County between 1850 and 1940. Students were taken on a docent led tour and received information on buildings, artifacts and grounds that showed how people lived during a key period in Collin County history (1850-1940). Students were allowed to view and touch all of the artifacts the village had to offer. They all enjoyed feeling the weight of an old iron, pretending to churn butter, and using an old washing tub with a hand crank and rollers. After the instructional time, we proceeded to a restaurant where the students practiced money management, tip calculation, and social skills to enjoy a meal prepared by adults with disabilities. We also used this trip to help develop other ECC goals such as organization, restaurant protocol, participation as a group member, participation in a guided tour, and use of low vision technology.
Greer Celebrates Teachers
On December 12, SPED offices held their Annual Christmas Staff Appreciation Party at Greer. This event is an opportunity to thank each and every one of you for all the hard work you do on behalf of our students. We are so fortunate to have you all on our team!
Thank you to everyone who attended who filled the halls of Greer with cheer!
Happy Holidays!
The Jolly Jive
McKinney North High school was very excited to extend the Jolly Jive, a dance for our students with special needs to McKinney HS and Boyd HS students. The goal of the Jolly Jive is to show our students with special needs just how important they are to us all. The event was held on December 2, 2016, in the MNHS gym from 6:30pm-8pm. Before the dance, they had a beauty station set up where volunteers were available to do hair, makeup, and even had donated dresses available for the students if needed. The event was a blast and we look forward to many more years of this successful event!
