A Message from Mr. Young
We had a terrific start to the school year. Students and staff have settled into a groove where they are taking on new challenges, persisting through obstacles , and positively encouraging one another. Our focus on the Character Trait of Respect continues this month as we plan opportunities for students to model this quality.
Fall conferences are scheduled for Monday, November 11 and Wednesday, November 13. Something we are going back to this school year is offering day time conferences in addition to evening conferences. Daytime conferences will only be offered on Monday, with evening conferences being offered on both days. Please look for additional information to come home soon regarding signing up for a parent/teacher conference.
As always, please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you have a question or concern.
Mrs. O'Toole's Reading Corner
Learning to read takes practice. Loving to read takes enthusiasm. Read with your child often and create a sense of enjoyment, wonder, and a passion for reading. I would love to see pictures of students that are reading at home. When you catch your child reading, snap a picture and email it to me at sotoole@westperry.org. I will post the pictures on my reading wall and your child will earn a free book!
News from the school nurse
It’s the time of year when temperatures start to drop and the weather can often be unpredictable. Dressing your child in layers is one good way to help them accommodate the fluctuations in temperature that fall brings. As fall progresses and it becomes colder, please send your child with a knit hat and gloves to keep them comfortable and safe during recess. The children go out for recess daily except in extreme temperatures and should be dressed appropriately to enjoy their time outside.
Parent Pick Up Procedures
- Parent Pick Up occurs at the East end of the building.
- All vehicles must be parked along the curb or in a parking spot. The roadway around the loop must not be blocked.
- All parents/guardians must sign their child out with a staff member at the East exit.
- Once signing your child out, it is the parents/guardians responsibility to escort his/her child to a vehicle. Please do not allow your child to walk/run freely, as this poses a safety risk.
- While we appreciate you may want to visit with others, this area can become very busy. Please do not linger, as this may hinder a safe and smooth dismissal.
Halloween Parade
This year’s Halloween parade will be held on Friday, November 1 beginning at 2:00. Parents/families wishing to watch our students are welcome to attend. The only parents who will be able to enter the school are those that are formally volunteering as a parent helper in the classroom. We will not be able to have parents who are not helping in the classroom enter the building. As per our district’s volunteer policy, all parent volunteers must be board approved. Teachers will be communicating with parents if there is a need for parent helpers. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to a fun afternoon.
In the event of rain, the parade will be canceled.
