Welcome to Our Digital Newsletter

Our digital newsletter contains lots of links and information we hope will make it easier for our families to stay in touch with what's going on at Park Layne Elementary. Please be sure you've signed up for our remind text messages as this is the way the newsletter will initially be sent out each month. To sign up follow this link. We would welcome any feedback on the newsletter as well.

Summer Reading Inventive

Did you know that your child will have access to all of the computer programs they use at school all summer long including Raz-Kids (leveled books your child can read), Lexia Core5 (reading skills) and MobyMax (all subject areas). We sent home a reminder of how to access these programs at home. If you didn't receive a letter or have questions, please contact Mrs. Strader through email at karyl.strader@tecumsehlocal.org or through remind. Please set up a routine to make sure your child takes advantage of this opportunity all summer long. Students completing at least 300 minutes on Lexia or 3 levels in Raz-Kids or who complete at least on reading card through the summer reading program at the New Carlisle Library will get a prize in the fall and be on the announcements. We are so proud of the efforts of all of the kids this year and the progress they've made. We don't want to see all of their efforts go to waste. Read, read, read this summer!

Field Day

A big thank you to Mrs. Cross, our P.E. teacher for organizing another great field day at Park Layne. The rain held off and everyone was able to enjoy a great day outside. Thanks to all of our parent volunteers who came and helped. We couldn't have done it without you. Below are a few pictures and many more can be found here on the website. There is also a short video clip on our YouTube page. Make sure you are on our new YouTube Channel.

Last PBS Reward - Spodgeball

Every 4-5 weeks we had a PBS (Positive Behavior Supports) Reward this year. Our final one of the year is always the favorite, Spodgeball! That's dodgeball with wet sponges. As you can see, everyone had a great time! Staff and students joined together to get each other wet and laugh and play together. There are dozens of pictures here, and there are also a couple of video clips of our Spodgeball game on our YouTube Channel, here.

PTO Officers Elected

Thanks to our wonderful PTO members and officers for all of their hard work this year as they organized and ran our apparel sale, book fair, cookie dough sale, skate parties, pool parties and the spring festival. Let's not forget about all the support they gave staff through treats and grants and their financial support of our elementary field trips, new equipment, and so much more! The PTO has generously contributed $5,000 to Park Layne Elementary to go towards the cost of a new Chromebook cart with 30 touch screen Chromebooks that will be used next year in Technology classes and in classrooms as well. The last PTO meeting was held earlier this month and officer elections for the 2018/2019 school year took place. Congratulations to the following parents; President Jordan Rose, Vice President Emmi Bilbrey, Treasurer Missy Carnes and Secretary Mandy Wills. Thanks to our outgoing officers for a wonderful year! President Brandy Triplett, Vice President Laura Sharbaugh, Secretary Hannah Gough, and treasurer Missy Carnes. Sign up for Remind alerts for PTO by following this link. Check out the PTO Facebook page for updates as well. Don't forget the pool party tonight at the New Carlisle Public Pool.

Mrs. McKIbben's Class is May Boxtop Winner

Mrs. McKibben's kindergarten students brought in 386 Box Tops in May and earned the rotating class trophy, bragging rights and each student got a new pencil. Mrs. Mullen's kindergarten class was second with 284 Box Tops and Mrs. Allen's first grade class brought in 262 for a third place finish. We collected 18, 097 Box Tops this year for total earnings of $1,809.70! Thanks so much and please keep collecting Box Tops and spreading the word to family and friends all summer long. We will start our contest over again next year and they also collect them at Donnelsville as well.

We Need Your Help - If you are cleaning out this summer, consider donating to Park Layne Elementary

We are asking for donations of the following items:

  • Extra Clothes for Kids Who Have Accidents at School. Sweatpants are best but any long pants - boys and girls - Sizes 4 - 10
  • Items for Dressing Kids for the 100th Day of School - We keep extra costumes for our Fall Parade so thought we could do the same for the 100th Day for kids who forget. If you have any of the following you could donate, that would be great; old eye glasses we can pop the lenses out of, costume jewelry like pearls, sweaters for girls, suspenders or ties for boys, etc.

Gearing Up for Summer - Get your kids involved.

InfOhio and the Ohio Department of Education have designed some fun stories and activities for students in grades K-3. These Beach Bags feature stories and activities that let children practice reading skills while learning about careers and their environment:

Don't forget about the wonderful summer reading program at our own New Carlisle Public Library!
