Bobcat Bulletin
October 14, 2016
Dear Super Staff,
- Student Achievement-Benchmarks are for-real and very rigorous. We need to focus on the end in mind and be mindful of what will be on the benchmark and how questions will be presented. Get familiar with the blueprint, performance tasks, SBAC Interim Assessments and have well prepared unit assessments from Illuminate. Use your Illuminate team for support (K-1 Bailey, 2-3 Yvette, 4-5 Hannah, and 6th Rachel)
- Healthy Relationships-Overly share encouraging words with students and parents often. How will you let them know you care? Sunshine notes, positive calls home, tell them how special they are, give specific positive feedback...
- Leadership and Innovation-Does every child have a self selected responsibility/job either in class or for the school? Have you found a way to celebrate achievement on goals? When a child reaches a goal, I want to celebrate them as well. Send them to the office with their goal achievement. I will praise them with LIM bracelet and pencil.
- All of these hinge on STUDENT CONNECTEDNESS! Are your students connected to you, the class and the school? If not, what can we do to reengage them?
SST Recap Summary-
Paradigm shift! In the past, we SST 'd Tier 2 (one year behind) and 3 (two+ years behind) students. Research now suggests that if a tier 2 or tier 3 student is receiving intervention and making progress, document the intervention progress and celebrate. However, if the child is in tier 2 or 3 intervention and not making progress (closing the gap) move forward with an SST (tier 2 teacher initiated, tier 3 teacher and intervention initiated). Arica has provided a summary below. See any LC teacher, psychologists or AP for further strategies for Tier 2 ideas. Use small group reteach with F and P leveled books. I would be happy to walk you through a lesson plan. They are very easy to use.
- Refer to RTI pyramid for Tiers 1-3 guidance
- Collect ELA/Math assessment data for Tier 1 concerns
- Complete SST Form A (pre-SST) if student is NOT showing growth in Tier 1
- Tier 2 students should be monitored by teacher every 4-6 weeks-collect data
- Tier 3 intervention students will be monitored every 4-6 weeks by intervention teachers
- Tier 3 and previous SST students will be "flagged" in Infinite Campus
- Form A: pre-SST, Form B: new plan, Form C: follow-up, Form D: behavior
Hope you have an awesome week,
Stephenie

Instructional Focus
The trends I saw this week revolved around DOK levels. Most teachers ARE teaching grade level standards in a clear and systematic method. However, some teachers need to reflect on how you deliver the lesson with respect to rigor and DOK. What level of DOK are you requiring from students? I saw many lessons this week asking students to watch then copy the steps (recall). Recall is the lowest level of rigor. How can you up the rigor of the standard to thinking and extending levels? See the attached link below for details of DOK levels.
Level 1: Recall and Reproduction
Level 2: Skills and Concepts
Level 3: Strategic Thinking
Level 4: Extended Thinking
Culture and Climate
We have been playing music in the AM. Anyone have any great classical music CD's that we could play? Should we play music during snack and lunch? Let me know your thoughts?
