This act established individual retirement benefits.It was signed on August 14,1935. The Social Security Act was part of Franklin D. Roosevelt's "New Deal" and was set in place to help America get out of the Great Depression.

What did it do and who did it help?

The Social Security Administration was the first entitlement plan. An entitlement is a type of plan that gives individuals financial benefits. This administration was first started to help fight unemployment but now it is used for people who have retired and the disabled.
