-Schools have levels in advancement. levels of skill knowledge.
-Japanese started dividing themselves into classes to be more involved.
-The government had schools and a university set up.
-Women were given more rights and access to education.
- Japan reestablished trade with neighboring countries including the U.S.
Trading and Minor Geography
- Treaties were force on Japan from the British to open up trade
- Treaty of Kanagawa(1854) the ports were open to American ships, but not for trade
- The treaty allowed lower taxes on imports and gave them territory on Japan
- Led by the shotgun Iesada
- The most famous mountain in Japan is MT. Fuji(volcanic)
- Population 125 million
- The country is split into 8 regions and 47 prefectures
Interesting Facts
-US forced Japan to trade with the US
-studied western culture
-set up banks, railroads, ports, telegraphs
-created an industrial super power
-women received educations and jobs
-Tokugawa Yoshinobu's resignation was the end of the Shogunate's 268-year rule and reinstated the Emperor ruling system
-After studies about western culture, Japan saw the reduction of the samurai and became more like western civilization
