The Lion's Share Newsletter
November 2020
From the Desk of Mr. Miller:
Welcome to the November edition of The Lion's Share Newsletter! Whether you stayed home for Halloween to watch scary movies or ventured out to trick-or-treat, I hope it was a great one! As for me, we celebrated my mom's birthday (yes, her birthday is on Halloween!) and took our 4 year old pterodactyl to Boo at the Zoo!
I hope that you have enjoyed your Parent/Guardian/Teacher conferences! If you haven't had time to virtually meet your teacher, there is still time! Our last day for conferences is this coming Wednesday, November 4th! If you are unable to meet virtually via WebEx, we hope you will be able to hold the conference over the phone. I have been on many and have also called many families myself and have really enjoyed getting to speak with some of you!
Along those same lines for our online families, I would like to ask that if you are in need of speaking to your student's teacher because of a question or concern, to please not do so during live WebEx lessons with other students present. As you can understand, we want to ensure the confidentiality of all of our students and would appreciate that lessons not be interrupted. If you have a question or concern, our teachers are available before school, after school, during plan time, and during online "office hours," or via their school email. Our teachers can better support you and give you the true one-on-one time you need by setting up a time to meet outside of the live instructional time. I would greatly appreciate it!
I hope you and your family will be able to participate in our virtual Title I Online Family Event! The great thing about this year's Title I event is that you will be able to participate at your own pace during a time that best fits your schedule! I really do want to hear your feedback and see pictures of you and your students completing the fun activities! There is a link and a QR code below where you can leave your comments, feedback, and questions. The grade level that posts the most pictures will earn a special prize!
Finally, I sincerely appreciate all you are doing to help keep (y)our students and staff safe! I would encourage you to continue to send students with masks and to keep those masks clean! So far, our cohort system has been working well for our students and they really are doing an incredible job of wearing masks, keeping their hands clean, and social distancing! I really do appreciate your efforts as well!

Title Family Event
As you know, we typically hold our Title I Family Event during Parent/Teacher Conference time. As we are unable to have any visitors in our building, we will hold our Title I Event virtually! This will be a work-at-your-pace event! We REALLY want to see your pictures and get your feedback! Please use the QR code to the right to send us your feedback and pictures! You can also use this link: Title Night Activities (the password is Grant).
Game bags will be coming home with your student tonight! We have a handout of fun and easy math games, online reading games, as well as some word games for our primary students. These resources will also be posted on the Grant website with live links that you can click on to access the directions for the math games and play the reading games. This is a great opportunity to have some family fun that includes learning for your student. Also for our virtual learners your bag will be available for pick up in the office. Be sure to take a picture of your student playing the math games and reading games and post it to the link above!
In order to access the activities, simply follow these steps:
- Go to the Grant Website: https://www.d11.org/Domain/35
- Find the "Title I Information" tab towards the upper right (or click on the large picture that scrolls through on our site!)
- Here, you will find "Title I Family Event 2020," click that to open up all of the games and resources!
iPads for K-2 & Cases for 3-5 Chromebook
As for our online students in grades 3-5, your cases are here and waiting for pick-up! Simply stop by the office between 7:00-3:30 and we will give you a brand new protective case for your Chromebook! So far, only 12 people have picked them up, so please stop by and grab one if you are an online student!
Parking Around the School
Also, please do not park in the yellow bus/daycare zone at all. This area has been reserved strictly for our school busses and the numerous daycare providers to drop-off and pick-up.
Finally, unless you have a Disabled Parking Permit, please do not park in any spot or along any blue curb. These areas are for our families needing extra assistance. We understand that you may be planning on only parking there for a couple minutes, but those spots are only for those that have a Disabled Parking Permit. Thank you!
