Red Ribbon Week
Students were invited to 'Plant the Promise' to stay drug free. There were several activities that the students could participate in to make their pledge, including each student planting a tulip bulb to reinforce that pledge. Look for our beautiful red tulips in the spring!
Calling all Veterans and Scouts
C.F. Holliday will be hosting a Veteran's Day assembly on Friday, November 10th at 9:30 a.m. Students and staff are asked to invite veterans they know to this assembly to be recognized. Veterans will get a chance to be introduced with their division and rank, while being escorted by the student that invited them. We are also looking for uniformed scouts to help with the assembly. If you are interested in being featured in our program, or know someone who should, please contact Mr. Manning via email at nmanning@wcsd.k12.oh.us or call our school office. Thank you!
Holliday PTO Corner
We are excited to announce a new family friendly event this December, the Holliday Extravaganza. The PTO has secured over 20 craft and direct sales vendors to be at the school on Saturday, December 9th from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. This is a great opportunity to do some holiday shopping. Also, we will have several free crafts and games for the kids to participate in, as well as a photographer available for a winter photo, face painting, and concessions. Please mark your calendars to attend this event. More information to come soon.
Holliday Happenings
West Carrollton Library
The first grade students had an assembly with the children's librarian from the West Carrollton Branch of the Dayton Metro Library. She talked with students about how they can get their own library card and all the exciting things to come with the West Carrollton Branch's remodel.
Geometry in Foods
The students in Miss Jordan's math class looked at the differences between 2-D and 3-D shapes this week. First, they got their tasty treats and sorted them on trays for 2-D and 3-D shapes. The students then talked about 2-D shapes and what makes a shape 3-D and the special names there are for 3-D shapes. The students then went back to the trays and made corrections to their sorting. They learned that math can be yummy and fun!
Ohio the Beautiful
The students in Mr. Manning's class learned about the regions of Ohio, the neighboring states, , major cities in Ohio, the natural borders, and the resources that make the state of Ohio so valuable. The students then created salt dough maps to show their learning.
Final Harvest
The students in Mr. Manning's and Mrs. Ethier's class picked the final harvest of the season from our blacktop garden this week. We can't wait to see what grows next season!
Fossils or Food?
The students in Mrs. Hopf's class
completed a fossil dig with cookies. The students also made limestone sandwiches to show how fossils are formed in Ohio limestone. How delicious and fun!
What's in the Bag?
The students in Miss Jankowski's class participated in an activity where they had to describe a mystery object using adjectives! What a fun way to learn about adjectives!
