Self-Esteem:
What is it and how does it affect us?
Developing A Healthy Self-Esteem
Self-esteem is the beliefs we have about our self. As parents, helping our children develop a healthy self-esteem is one of the most important things we do. Self-esteem ultimately effects all aspects of their life: how they problem solve, how they interact with friends, how they handle difficult situations, how loved they feel, and their approach to new situations in life.
101 WAYS TO PRAISE A CHILD
Do you need some new ideas to express how wonderful you think your child is? Sometimes saying the same idea in a different way, helps the person hear it better.
PROVIDING CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM
Taking advantage of teachable moments while not damaging their self-esteem is our job as parents. For the complete version of this handout please visit http://www.superduperinc.com/handouts/pdf/340_ConstructiveHome.pdf.
VALIDATING YOUR CHILD'S EMOTIONS
Sometimes our best intentions can be misinterpreted. Avoiding these situations with our children, can help improve the communication and decrease the conflict.
Dove Evolution | With some images, all is not what it seems
Helping children understand what they see on television, movies, or other forms of advertisement is not always reality is important. Having open discussions with your children can promote healthy self identity, and increase their ability to differentiate the factual versus the embellished material they encounter in the media.
