The Roar of the Mountain Lions
Monterey Elementary - June 2022
Principal's Message
June has arrived and we have made it! We started the 2021-2022 school year back in August 2021 and we are finally almost at the last week of school. It has yet again been another year to remember. Although the world around us seems sad and disconcerting most days, there is much to be proud of at Monterey Elementary School. Our student's safety will continue to remain a top priority. Thank you for understanding when we check and double check the reason of any visit to our school building. We have worked hard throughout the year to show growth and academic gains. Our students became reacclimated to the whole classroom settings which supported our student's social and emotional growth as well. We are so proud of our school community for its perseverance, grit and overall love shown for one another!
We want to remind you that award ceremonies are scheduled for the week of June 6th. We are excited to welcome back families to celebrate in the success of our students. Please be mindful that only immediate family members are invited to support the needed crowd control within our gymnasium. Thank you for your understanding and compliance to our safety measures.

When to Keep Your Student Home
All of our students need to be in school every day. However, there are times when students should be kept at home to help ensure the safety and welfare of our student body and staff. If your student has any of the following symptoms, please call the school nurse at (540) 853-6534.
- Fever
- Fatigue
- Nasal congestion/runny nose
- New loss of taste or smell
- Cough
- Headache
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- Vomiting/Diarrhea
- Sore throat
- Muscle Aches
If your child is experiencing any symptoms, please contact the school nurse regarding when your child can return to school. (540) 853-6534.
If the school nurse has instructed your child to stay out of school, there are packets in the office per grade level for that week. Please stop by the front office to pick these up. When returned, packets will serve as guidance on updated attendance.
