From the Heart
Team,
Two weeks until Thanksgiving Break, but who's counting! I know many of you are out this week with district meetings. Please plan an overabundance of instructional activities for your students. I don't mean "busy" work, but assignments that make them think. All disciplines should be reading and writing!
I am scheduled to complete all observations by November 22 and I am so impressed with the work you are doing. You are the most dedicated, creative, and vulnerable faculty that I have ever worked with in my career. I am enjoying our pre and post conferences as we think together how to create learning experiences for our students.
Instructional Strategies to Consider for struggling learners:
Sentence Starters
Examples/Visuals
Student Templates
Rubrics with specific tasks
Check their steps
Have them write down what they know
Break assignment into chunks
If you would like or need more information about any strategy listed above, don't hesitate to reach out to me or Lauren. It takes ALL of us working together to reach ALL students.
This year our TEA coach is Johannes Starks. The leadership team met with her last Monday and she is returning this Monday morning. She has experience with forming community business partnerships and getting internships for her students. I think she will be a fantastic help this year to move us from good to great!
This Friday we will host 3 medical field Career Labs from 1:45pm - 4pm. We have a doctor, physical therapist and a nurse practitioner coming to meet with approximately 12 students in each lab. I will be out of town this Friday (my annual fall NYC fix) and Kristinia has graciously volunteered/was voluntold/is happy to do it/begged to take over (Kristinia, you can write your own story here), anyway Kristinia will be overseeing the Career Labs on Friday. Thank you Kristinia!!!
If you haven't signed up for a Kickin' it With Kindness volunteer site, please do so ASAP. Robin is trying to get all the final details worked out this week. I think there might be something at the Euless raw sewage plant for those that don't pick a place from the current list...I don't know you will have to check with Robin! :-)
We have Leadership Colleyville visiting on Tuesday afternoon and Leadership Grapevine on Thursday afternoon. BBBS dinner on Tuesday and a basketball game on Thursday! Whew! Lots of great things happening! Thank you for all of your planning, conferencing, correcting, explaining, and most of all your positive attitude while doing it all! I am grateful for you!
Have a great week and practice gratitude!
