Dr. Marvin Marshall
It's the beginning of the school year! Classrooms are filled with enthusiasm, team building, name games, learning about one another and setting up expectations. At NP3, we have the joy of using processes from The Leader In Me and Discipline Without Stress to help teach these. Both of these processes are incredibly important for many reasons; however, let's reflect on one of the reasons - helping students learn how to be responsible in various situations. As you explore your instruction and student learning of these processes, remember these first few weeks are for building common language across campus, getting clear about what that looks and sounds like, and practicing the language with the students. It is our obligation to foster these practices through the power of the questions we use, consistency of implementation and experiences in which we can learn from.
The quotes below were shared by Dr. Marvin Marshall when pondering the levels and intrinsic motivation (only experienced at level D). What do these mean for you in your classroom?
- Success in life is not in knowing the right answer; it’s in knowing how to ask the right question. —Harry Wong
- “When the only tool you have is a hammer, it is tempting to treat everything as if it were a nail.” —Abraham Maslow
- You are who you are when no one is watching you. —Anonymous
Have a great week, Pirates! Arrrrgh.
