Wynford Elementary
February Newsletter
From the Desk of Mrs. Nutter
The building has been buzzing with activity already this month: Mini cheerleaders were showcased at a boys' basketball game, 1st Graders sang the National Anthem at a girls' basketball game, Parent-Teacher Conferences with a Student Led option were held, Jump Rope for Heart had its kick off, Valentine's Parties and Dance were held, Crawford County Park District held a puppet show for our Preschool-1st grade students, the Mobile Dentist is working with students and we have a Community Brunch coming up.
Our students are constantly on the move and showing us what leaders they are in the school and the community. We are proud of the ownership they have taken in their learning and behavior, you should be proud, too.
Community Outreach
The Groove and Move Dance Club held a dance on February 15th in order to help support the Crawford County Humane Society. Students were encouraged to bring a donation in order to get admitted to the dance. Over 300 students enjoyed dancing, a movie, games, pizza, popcorn and drinks. The club is planning future events for our students. Thank you to everyone who was able to donate to The Humane Society!
The 4th Graders sold Valentine Treats to collect donations for the Ohio History Center in Columbus. When they go on their field trip in the spring, they will have $206.75 to donate. Thank you to all who sent a sweet treat and helped the 4th graders donate to such a worthy cause.

Leader in Me--Habit 4--Think Win-Win
Think Win-Win isn't about being nice, nor is it a quick-fix technique. It is a character-based code for human interaction and collaboration.
Most of us learn to base our self-worth on comparisons and competition. We think about succeeding in terms of someone else failing--that is, if I win, you lose; or if you win, I lose. Life becomes a zero-sum game. There is only so much pie to go around, and if you get a big piece, there is less for me; it's not fair, and I'm going to make sure you don't get anymore. We all play the game, but how much fun is it really?
Win-win sees life as a cooperative arena, not a competitive one. Win-win is a frame of mind and heart that constantly seeks mutual benefit in all human interactions. Win-win means agreements or solutions are mutually beneficial and satisfying. We both get to eat the pie, and it tastes pretty darn good!
A person or organization that approaches conflicts with a win-win attitude possesses three vital character traits:
- Integrity: sticking with your true feelings, values, and commitments
- Maturity: expressing your ideas and feelings with courage and consideration for the ideas and feelings of others
- Abundance Mentality: believing there is plenty for everyone
You can see perfect examples of Win-Win if you are watching the Olympics and watch how Team U.S.A. cheers each other on and celebrates their teammate's success, which equals to team success!
Student Safety Concerns
With all the recent reports of school violence, threats and upset, it is important to discuss with your student their role in keeping our buildings safe.
-Please make sure your student does not have access to any sort of weapon kept at your home.
-Please discuss with your student that they are not to bring anything to school that can be construed as a weapon.
-Please discuss with your student that any type of threat will be investigated and dealt with seriously and appropriately.
-Please discuss with your student "If you see something, say something"
- Who or what you saw;
- When you saw it;
- Where it occurred; and
- Why it's suspicious.
We will continue to work together to keep our school and students safe.
