From Puppies to Adults
- Female Golden's give birth to litters of puppies. Puppies can leave their mothers after twelve weeks. These medium sized dogs weigh 55 to 75 pounds full grown. Female Golden's are 21.5 to 22.5 inches tall. It takes them about a year to get that big. Golden's live to be ten to thirteen years old. As goldens grow older their coat can become light or darker.
Caring for your Golden Retriever
If you want a golden retriever you need to care for it. Owners should brush their Golden's coat everyday. Brushing removes dirt and dead hair. Golden's also need lots of exercise and training. Golden Retrievers need to be bathed every two months.

Golden Retrievers are often used as guide dogs for people. They are really good at following commands. Some people use Golden's as hunting dogs. This breed is also used for water rescues. The first three dogs to ever achieve the AKC Obedience Champion title were Golden Retrievers.
