Comet Connection
Keeping you connected with Silver City ES!
ADMIN UNIVERSE
Comet Families,
We have made it to our final 8 and 1/2 days of school! It is so hard for me to believe this year is nearly over. I just want you all to know I am incredibly proud of the work of our teachers, our students and our families for persevering through this trying year. I have to say, though, we have done much more than just survive...our students have really pushed through and shown incredible tenacity, growth in their learning, and a patience with all the changes they have had to endure. I could not be more proud of our community and the way we have supported one another this year!
We have a lot going on over the next two weeks, so pay close attention to emails from your child's/children's homeroom teachers, Facebook, etc.
One event that I want to make sure I draw your attention to is the virtual Multicultural Festival we are hosting this week to celebrate some of the cultures that represent our school community. I highly encourage you to take some time with your child/children this week to explore the presentations and videos and learn something new about many of the countries represented by our families. I want to also give a special shout-out to our students and families who created a presentation or video to share with us. I LOVED watching these!!

COVID-19 Update
With the announcement late last week that the CDC is no longer recommending the wearing of a mask for fully vaccinated citizens, Dr. Bearden has lifted the mask requirement for FULLY VACCINATED STAFF. We wanted you to be aware of this as you may see members of our staff not wearing masks at school since many have now been vaccinated.
This is the only change being made to our current FCS COVID protocols. We will continue to monitor COVID-19 cases, information, and guidance as it becomes available this May and also throughout the summer.
Thank you!
Message from Nurse Kacey
Also, parents, please do not forget to pick up any medication that is in the clinic by the last day of school -- May 27. This includes prescriptions as well as over the counter medications. All medications that have not been picked up will be discarded.
Two EOY Surveys - Please take 10 minutes to complete!
We feel that these two surveys will help us do just that...solicit feedback and improve.
The first survey is our EOY Parent Survey. This is very similar to the survey we used last year to gather insight from you. Please spend 5 minutes to take this EOY Parent Survey (you only need to complete it once).
The second survey is our SCES Reading Survey and it has questions specifically about our focus on reading at Silver City. This survey has questions that you may answer differently for your 1st grader vs. your 4th grader, so we encourage you to fill the reading survey out with a specific child in mind. It would greatly help us if you fill out the survey on each of your children because it may tell us things we need to improve or consider in specific grade levels. The SCES Reading Survey is very short and should only take a couple of minutes per child.
Thank you for your feedback!
EOY Chromebook Return
The end of the school year is just around the corner, so it is time to collect all the chromebooks, chromebook power chargers, and Wi-Fi hotspots that have been checked out throughout the year.
Please follow these instructions carefully to return your borrowed devices:
Collect any school-issued Chromebook(s) and their power chargers
Place them in a bag with your child’s first/last name and teacher name
If you borrowed a WiFi hotspot from us, please include it as well
Return the bag with your child's name and teacher name to the front desk
**Note -- 5th Grade virtual students can return their chromebooks when they come on May 26th for the 5th grade EOY event.
If you have any questions, please reach out to
