Hybrid/In-Person Handbook

All Raleigh Hills families are required to review this handbook in preparation for students returning to hybrid/in-person instruction.

Video Explanation for Return in April

Please view the video below that will explain some of the other elements of what will happen in April. Please take time to watch it as a family.

There are a few clarifications to the video:

  1. Students will not be cleaning their own desk and chair. Staff will do this for them at the end of each school day except in middle school. Middle schoolers will wipe their desks and chairs.
  2. All exterior doors will remain locked at all times.
  3. Visitors who need to speak with office staff will need to ring the doorbell on our front doors. Office staff will then welcome one visitor at a time at the door.
  4. Volunteers are not allowed inside Raleigh Hills at this time.
  5. Our playground will be closed from 8:00am to 4:00pm once In-Person Hybrid begins. All schools will have this same rule. Don't forget to log on for your afternoon classes!

Face Covering/Mask Policy

Masks are required at school at all times, including during arrival and dismissal and on the school bus. Students who are not accustomed to wearing a mask for extended periods of times are encouraged to practice wearing a mask at home to build stamina for the duration of the time they will need to be wearing a mask.

Total mask wearing time for bus riders includes time on the bus to school, class at school, and time on the bus home.

Total mask wearing time for those who walk to school or arrive in vehicle includes the time from whenever they arrive on campus until they leave campus.

Although all staff have had the opportunity to be vaccinated, masks and social distancing are still required. Staff families and friends have likely not been vaccinated and staff do not want to risk infecting them.

Students will be dropped off in the bus lane between 8:45 and 9:00am. Staff will be directing students to the entrance for their cohort. It will be important to remind your student to keep distance between themselves and other students. Please see the map below for entrances when students get off buses.
Big picture

Students Who Arrive in a Vehicle

Students need to remain in vehicles until 8:45am. Students may only exit vehicles in the Car Drop Off in the lower lot. Please do not pull up in front of the school because this area is used to socially distance bus riders.

In order to keep traffic flow moving and increase safety for everyone, all adults are asked to remain in vehicles while students are unbuckling and exiting your vehicle.

Students need to enter and exit the passenger side of the vehicle to avoid passing traffic on the driver side. Families are encouraged to practice exiting the vehicle ahead of the April return dates.

Students Who Walk or Bike to School in the Morning

Students who walk to school arrive at Raleigh Hills should walk to the lower lot and follow the direction of the adults at the drop off area. Even middle schoolers who are biking should arrive at the lower lot. They will be instructed on the direction of traffic up to the bike racks and when is the right time to head up in order to keep cohorts separate.

Accessing Campus

Families will need to say goodbye prior to students coming on campus. Families should not walk onto campus in the morning. At this time, adults cannot enter the building. We will keep parents/guardians up to date when this changes.

Entering Classrooms Each Day

Whether students arrive on campus by bus, car, on foot, or on a bicyle or scooter, students will immediately be directed to walk to their teacher's classroom through their grade level entrance. At 8:45, teachers will open their classroom doors, complete a visual screen of each student, and welcome them one at a time into their classroom. Teachers will explain the location of their classroom door to their students prior to in-person instruction beginning. Additional staff will also be outside to help guide students to the correct door.

Dismissal Plan at 11:15 for AM and 3:00 for PM Middle Schoolers

Bus

Students will be called from their classes when their buses arrive on campus by grade level cohorts. Students will be supervised and encouraged to stay socially distanced.

Parent Pick Up

Families should come to the lower lot to get students. Students will be standing by a cone, socially distanced. A staff member will ask which student you are picking up and escort them to your car. Please see the video below for the procedure.

Parentpickup

Students Who Walk Home in the Afternoon

Please note: Parent/Guardians or other family members will not be allowed to walk on campus during dismissal.

Students who walk or bike will be dismissed with car riders and will be guided on socially distanced ways to leave campus.

Students Who Ride the Bus Home

  1. The driver will likely ask each student for their name, especially in the first few weeks. For our youngest students, please practice with them so they can answer clearly with their first and last name.
  2. The driver will then complete the screening steps as outlined in the Screening Info above.

  3. The driver will direct the students where to sit, loading the bus from rear to front.
  4. We will make every effort to place one child per seat with members of the same household sitting together on the bus.
  5. All students will need to wear masks while on the bus.

Notes:

  • Each time students disembark, high-touch areas will be disinfected. At the end of the day, the entire bus will be sanitized.
  • At least three windows per side will be lowered to the red line, and roof hatches will be open to ensure extra airflow and ventilation.
  • Our Transportation Department will be notifying families about bus routes for Hybrid instruction. Families can learn more on the BSD Transportation website.

Students Who Will Go Home in a Vehicle

In order to keep traffic flow moving and increase safety for everyone, all adults are asked to remain in vehicles while students are entering your vehicle and buckling up.

Students need to enter and exit the passenger side of the vehicle to avoid passing traffic on the driver side. Families are encouraged to practice entering the vehicle ahead of the April return dates.

Meal Distribution

No meals will be eaten in school. Meal sacks with handles will be provided daily to students as they leave for the day. Tuesday meal sacks will include two days of meals. Breakfast, Lunch and Supper will be provided. There is no fee for any meal. Allergies, meal modifications with medical documentation and vegetarian requests will be accommodated, and separate meal bags marked with the student name will be prepared as needed.

All students will be given a meal sack each day unless their parent/guardian has opted out of meals. If you choose to opt out and then later want to opt in, just contact us at Raleigh Hills.

Access to Drinking Water

Drinking fountains will not be operating during hybrid instruction. Students are asked to bring their own water bottle to school each day. Glass bottles are not allowed for safety reasons. Please be sure to label your student's water bottle with their first and last name. Disposable cups will be available for students who do not have a water bottle on a given day. They can get water from the sink in their classrooms. We will remind students to take their water bottle home each day for cleaning at home.

Specials - ELEMENTARY

All students will have a live PE or Music lesson on Zoom on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at the same time each day. Please encourage your student(s) to sign into Zoom at their scheduled specials time each afternoon.

Grab & Go, Outdoor Library, and Curbside Meals

Supply Pick Ups will move to Wednesdays from 11:00am to 12:00pm but will only be available to full CDL students or those who are quarantined for a period of time.

Outdoor Library will continue for all students on Wednesdays but will run from 10-12.

Curbside Meals will move to Wednesdays from 11:00am to 12:00pm but will only be available to full CDL students or those who are quarantined for a period of time. For the week of April 5, students in grades 3-5 will also have access to meals on Wednesday, April 7.

School Supplies

Plan on keeping all school supplies at home for use during the asynchronous afternoon. We will provide any school supplies they need while at school.

Teachers will let families know if students in their class need to bring their Chromebook or iPad to school for In-Person learning. We have not made any final plans at this time.

Some items may travel to and from school each day, such as a writing notebook. Teachers will let each class know their plans, but all supplies will be provided.

FULLY Charge Devices

Please have your student bring a fully charged device to school each day. There will be no charging stations at school. If a student comes without a device or with a device out of battery, we will have a limited number of loaner chrome books for them to use. We will collect, clean and disinfect loaners at the end of each day.

Restroom Procedures

Only 2 students are allowed in restrooms at one time to keep social distancing guidelines. We will have a visual outside each restroom so students know how many students are in there. We also have clearly marked waiting areas for students to stand with social distancing and wait. Teachers will teach these procedures at school, but please watch the videos below with your student so they know in advance what to do.
