Long Jump
Where People Jump Really Far!
Long Jump is Great
The long jump is a track and field event in which athletes combine speed, strength, and agility to leap as far as possible from a take off point. This event was in the Ancient Olympic games and has been a modern Olympic event for men since 1896 and for women since 1948.
Why Am I Doing This?
The point of this is to find out, using data from past long jump olympic gold medalists from both the men and women, which year the women and the men gold medalists jump the same distance.
Data of Men's and Women's Long Jump Distances Over The Years
Scatter Plot Data
The squares represent the data from the men while the X's represent the data from the women.
Trend for Gold Medalists
The blue line represents the trend for men's gold medalists. The red line represents the trend for women's gold medalists.
Will Women Catch Up To The Men?
What you see above is the intersection point of the trend line of the men's gold medalists and the trend line of the women's gold medalists. At the bottom of the screen, the X axis represents the year, and the Y axis represents the distance. So, according to the data, in the year 2187.2, (obviously not a year that the olympics will be held), the women's and the men's gold medalists will jump the same distance, 7.869927273 meters.
