Terry Fox Run
OLA will be participating in the Terry Fox Run on Friday, September 25th from 12:30 pm - 3:00 pm. The Terry Fox Foundation is encouraging online donations. Please send your toonies and other donations online this year through the Terry Fox, School Run - Sponsor OLA website.
Back in 1980 when Terry started his Marathon of Hope, there was no such thing as social media, cellphones, not even the internet. Terry relied heavily on news coverage and used empty buckets to collect cash for cancer research as he ran along Canada’s roads and highways. Now we are in 2020, and we are all so connected by the world wide web, even more so this year. Keeping this in mind, we encourage all of you to fundraise online this year. Visit Terry Fox, School Run - Sponsor OLA to donate today. And remember to share the link with all your friends and family so we can raise even more money to fight and find a cure for cancer!
Thank you to the Big People!
We send a very special thank you
to each of the adults who are loving and caring for OLA littles.
You are doing a great job, and we are so grateful for your partnership. We know it's challenging to come and pick up children in the middle of the day when they begin to show symptoms. We also know it's no easy task to follow the Alberta Health Guidelines for returning to school after symptoms begin.
Because of your honesty and commitment to work within the guidelines set out for schools, you are making a big difference in keeping children, staff and OLA families safe and healthy.
You've got this!
Together, we've got this!
Because God's got us!
Student Illness and your Child's Learning
- Fever, Cough, Shortness of Breath or difficulty breathing, Runny Nose, Sore Throat, Chills Painful swallowing, Stuffy Nose, Headache, Muscle or joint aches, Feeling unwell, fatigue or severe exhaustion, Gastrointestinal symptoms (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or unexplained loss of appetite), Loss of sense of smell or taste, Conjunctivitis, commonly known as pink eye.
Please email Mrs. Desaulniers, susande@eics.ab.ca and cc: your child's homeroom teacher to share what symptoms your child is experiencing as well as an approximate date for your child's return so we can plan for your child's learning and growing in Literacy and Numeracy while away.
What will my Child Learn this year?
In addition to learning how much God loves each and every one of His children, learning how to play, be curious, encourage, care for each other, spread joy and peace and deepen their relationships with Christ, along with building strong meaningful connections with their teachers, OLA's support team and their peers, children work to achieve specific learning outcomes as outlined by Alberta Education.
As you may know, the Alberta Curriculum will be changing. We are waiting word from the government as to the implementation timeline. For now, to be companions on your child's learning journey, we invite you to click on the links below. The first link allows you to dig a little deeper into each subject area. The second link is an overall view of what will be explored at that grade level.
Kindergarten, Kindergarten at a Glance
If you have additional questions about what your child will be learning, or have questions about your child's learning needs, -hank you for reaching out to your child's homeroom teacher by calling 780-998-3716 or by email through our school website.
Arriving and Playing in the Morning
If you are dropping your child off, thank you for using the three drop off and pick up points identified on the map above (white arrows). Thank you also for organizing a meeting place inside the play area, to meet your child after school so that together you may exit the play area and return to your car.
Grade 1 - 4 children are invited to play in their morning play areas from 8:33am - 8:45am.
A reminder that supervision begins at 8:33am. If your child arrives prior to that time, they are arriving unsupervised. Thank you for remaining with your child until a supervisor arrives.
BRAVO OLAers! You're rocking this...When the bell rings at 8:45am, students in grades 1-4 will go to their entrance doors and wait on a polka dot while their teacher welcomes them into the school in their colour groups. Kindergarten children are encouraged to enter the school through their entrance door upon their arrival between 8:33am and 8:45am.
The health and wellness of OLA Children continues to be a priority.

Establishing Your Child's Baseline
Many children have pre-existing conditions that will help your child's teacher and the OLA team navigate through symptoms. It is encouraged that if your child has allergies or other pre-existing conditions to have a Covid Test while the symptoms are present. Having a negative test during these symptoms establishes your child's baseline normal. Once a negative test is achieved, please connect with Mme Gravelle or Mrs. Weller at 780-998-3716.
