Week 2 Success!

We are pretty excited at how our second week back together at Southview unfolded. Students seemed right at home as educators spent time building trusting relationships and meaningful connections. Authentic learning tasks, design projects, sports opportunities, literacy and math skills and groupings are well underway! Watch our Twitter feed or website for daily updates!

You will notice that data verification forms have been sent home with each child. Please check their backpacks and be sure to confirm information and return to the school as soon as possible. We thank you for helping us with this important start up procedure.

Parent Council Update - WE NEED YOU!

If you are interested in joining the Parent Council, or just want to help out occasionally, please consider joining us at our first meeting on Wednesday, September 18th, 2018 at 6:30 pm in the Library. Elections will also take place that evening. You do not need to be an elected member of Parent Council in order to attend meetings.

Our Parent Council is an active organization comprised of parents and staff who volunteer their time supporting the goals and needs of our school and students. Our key mission is to promote an environment at our school that enables staff to do their best work and children to do their best learning. The Parent Council provides input on key elements of school life and offers community-building activities and events that support relationship building and increased parent engagement at our school. At Southview, we want to be inclusive and offer a welcoming climate so families are excited to participate, feel comfortable and well informed about school and council events.

If you are interested in running for a position on Council, nomination forms are below, along with a description of positions needed for our Council. Any parent/guardian is welcome to attend any meeting througout the school year without being on the Council. Meeting dates for the year will be posted after our first meeting so that you can book your calendar. Childcare is provided. We can't wait to see you!

Throughout the year there will be many opportunities for parents/guardians to volunteer at the school. Parents/Guardians who wish to volunteer at the school or supervise on field trips must have a criminal record check (CPIC) on file as per LDSB policy. CPICs need to be updated every three years. During interim years, volunteers will be required to complete an Offence Declaration. Please contact the front office for more information.

Allergy Alert

Please be aware that we have staff and students who have allergies to foods as well as environmental allergies. Some of these allergies are life-threatening. With this in mind, we ask that all staff, students and visitors refrain from sending/bringing items to school that contain or have come in contact with peanuts and other nuts. As well, all staff, students and visitors are asked to refrain from using scented products.

We are Scent Free

Medical Forms

If your child requires special care for a medical condition or takes medication while at school, please notify the school's office so that the appropriate arrangements and paperwork can be completed or updated. Please check the expiry dates on all medications (ie. Epipens, Inhalers) to ensure they are current.

Students can not carry medication in their backpack on the bus. This must be dropped off at the main office by an adult. Thank you for helping us with this safety precaution.

Head Lice

Please check periodically for head lice. Spending 5 minutes a week checking your family (both male and female) for head lice will help control the spread through your family, friends and through our school. If you find signs of head lice or nits, please contact the main office so that the appropriate steps can be taken. A letter will be sent home witht he students in the classes affected asking families to please check their children. More information can be found HERE.

Or, you can call KFL&A Public Health for more information 613-549-1232.
