Class of 2021

January 11th-15th

January and February Application Deadlines

Students with January and February deadlines should be preparing to submit their official transcript requests on Naviance ASAP and effectively communicating their application plans with their counselor and/or Ms. Vermillion

REMINDER: Students should be reaching out to teachers and counselors two weeks before their deadline in regard to letters of recommendation. The proper etiquette is to first contact the teacher/counselor asking if they have time to write a recommendation. If the teacher/counselor say yes, then the student must send them a completed student information form. For teacher letters of recommendation, students must place a formal request on Naviance. Students do not need to place a formal request on Naviance for counselor recommendations.

WHERE TO FIND HELP FOR THE FAFSA AND ORSAA

Click here if you are looking for help with the FAFSA or ORSAA. Oregon Goes to College has put together some helpful videos and links for students and families looking for more information.

Clackamas Community College offers meetings to all students and families in our community where they can help with FAFSA completion, FAFSA corrections, Federal Student Aid ID and more. These meetings are available to all students and their families planning to attend a two of four year college or university. Important College Process Information

Please watch the videos that are available to you regarding the college application process and the Naviance Instructions. These videos are in this newsletter and also on the WLHS website.

It is important that you pay attention to your application deadlines and make your transcript and letter of recommendation requests 2 weeks before your deadline.

All seniors applying to a college/university MUST request their transcripts to be sent in their Naviance Student account. Without these requests we will not know where you are submitting your applications or where to send your documents. Without these documents, you applications will be incomplete.

Applying Via Common App:

  • If you are applying to multiple schools via Common App you need to send a completed Student Information Form to your counselor. There are additional required documents that have to be completed in order for us to send your supporting documents (such as your transcript, school profile etc.)
  • If you are using Common App to apply to only Oregon State University and University of Oregon, (after you have made your Naviance transcript requests) you need to reach out to your counselor or Ms. Vermillion letting them know. OSU and U of O do not need a counselor recommendation but still require additional common app forms to be completed on your behalf.

Requesting Transcripts

Seniors needing official transcripts sent to colleges/universities must submit transcript requests in their Naviance Student account. In the video below, we walk through how to request a transcript to be sent. Click here to access your Naviance Student account

At this time all transcript requests are for your initial transcript. Mid-year transcripts are automatically sent for students who apply via Common App. If a school that you did not apply via Common App requests that you submit your mid-year transcript, you will need to make a mid-year transcript request in Naviance. Final transcript requests will be submitted at the end of the year and are typically only sent to the school that you plan on attending.

Common App

Please note, the Common App requires a counselor recommendation. It is best to reach out to your counselor letting them know you are applying via common app and include a completed Student Information Form to provide them with more personal information to help them write the best recommendation letter possible. Your counselor will not start your letter until you have submitted a Student Information Form.

These counselor forms and recommendations are NOT optional, we cannot send your transcript without these additional forms and documents.

If you are only applying to University of Oregon and Oregon State University via the Common App, you do not need a counselor recommendation written. If this is the case, you need to let your counselor or Ms. Vermillion know ASAP indicating that U of O and OSU are the only schools you are applying to via common app.

You do not need to make a letter of recommendation request on Naviance for a Common App Counselor Recommendation.

Teacher Letter of Recommendations

It is proper etiquette to reach out to your teacher before submitting a letter of recommendation request on Naviance. Once your teacher has agreed to write you a letter, you can then send them a completed Student Information Form and submit the official request on Naviance. Below is a video that shows how to complete letter of recommendation requests on Naviance.
