For more than two decades, Mr. Kamau has served as a mentor, teacher and school administrator in Trenton, Newark and Southern New Jersey. His moral imperative for equity in education began with him tutoring and mentoring students while in college at both Morgan State and Rutgers University. His formal career as a teacher began in Trenton at a charter school. Though he loved being a teacher, his desire to expand his mission took him to the next level of becoming a school administrator, serving all levels from kindergarten through high school. Continuing this journey, he took on the challenge of turning around an alternative high school for academically deficient and emotionally disturbed students. He believes that without high standards, life has serious limitations and consequences. Beginning August 1, 2016, Mr. Kamau brings his energy and commitment to IAT because he believes that this school has the potential to be the best in the city and that the students of IAT deserve a world class education.
