MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL OPHUS

Dear Fairview Families,

I hope you have all had a good week and are ready to enjoy some fun with your children at tonight’s PTO Boo Bash! As a reminder, the event will run from 5:00 pm-7:30 pm in our north parking lot and bus turnaround area outside of the school. See the flyer below for more details! As mentioned last week, on Friday, October 29, we will be enjoying Halloween festivities as a school community. We will hold our annual Halloween parade starting at 1:30 pm. Students will parade around the perimeter of the school (weather permitting) where parents are welcome to stand by and watch all of our students show off their costumes. Then our PTO room parents will be hosting Halloween parties in each of our classrooms for students to enjoy. Only the parents that have been assigned as "Holiday Helpers" will be helping in the classrooms. In terms of our procedures for Halloween, many parents choose to take their child home during lunch to change into their costume. This is not required, as children can change into costumes in the bathroom after the lunch hour; however, if you would like to take your child home during the lunch hour, please follow these procedures.

  • If you will be taking your child home for lunch to change into their costume, please click here and fill out the form no later than Thursday, at 3:00 pm.

  • All students going home for lunch will be dismissed from our bus turnaround doors at 11:35 am, so parents should meet their student(s) there. If you are not going to meet your student face-to-face please use our auto pick-up zone in our north parking lot (click here to view map). If you will be picking your student up in the pick-up lane please do not leave your vehicle and pull all the way up to the sign. No cars are allowed in our bus turnaround.

  • When students return at 12:45 pm they need to enter the school through our front entrance off of Isabella. Parents should drop their student(s) off in the front of the school and direct them to enter the school on their own. We will have staff members signing students back in upon their return so there isn’t a need for parents to enter the building with their student(s).

Thank you for your help in following the procedures above to ensure a safe and smooth day next Friday. If the weather does not cooperate, we will unfortunately not be able to hold the parade, but will still have the parties. We will notify parents as soon as possible if we have to cancel the parade due to weather.

As a reminder, please mark your calendars for Tuesday, October 26th at 5:00 pm. This is when I will be sending an email to families to sign up for Parent-Teacher Conferences. Conferences will be held on Wednesday, November 10th, Tuesday, November 16th, and Thursday, November 18th from 3:45 pm-7:45 pm. The deadline to sign up for a conference is Friday, November 5th. After that date, contact your child’s teacher if you would like to schedule a conference time. As always, thank you for reading today’s newsletter. Have a nice weekend!

Sincerely,

Dan Ophus

Fairview Principal

PROCEDURES FOR HALLOWEEN

On Friday, October 29, we will be enjoying Halloween festivities as a school community. We will hold our annual Halloween parade starting at 1:30pm. Students will parade around the perimeter of the school (weather permitting) where parents are welcome to stand by and watch all of our students show off their costumes. · If you will be taking your child home for lunch to change into their costume, please click here and fill out the form no later than Thursday, at 3:00pm.

· All students going home for lunch will be dismissed from our bus turnaround doors at 11:35am, so parents should meet their student(s) there. If you are not going to meet your student face-to-face please use our auto pick-up zone in our north parking lot (click here to view map). If you will be picking your student up in the pick-up lane please do not leave your vehicle and pull all the way up to the sign. No cars are allowed in our bus turnaround.

· When students return at 12:45pm they need to enter the school through our front entrance off of Isabella. Parents should drop their student(s) off in the front of the school and direct them to enter the school on their own. We will have staff members signing students back in upon their return so there isn’t a need for parents to enter the building with their student(s).

HALLOWEEN COSTUMES

Students should not come to school on Friday morning in their costume. Students will have an opportunity to get into their costumes if they will be staying at school for the lunch/recess period. See the above information about Halloween procedures if you want to pick your student(s) up during the lunch/recess time to get into their costume.

We would like to remind parents that look-alike guns, knives, and other violent objects which may be included with a Halloween costume are not permitted in the school building. If your child’s costume includes items of this nature, please leave them at home for trick-or-treat activities or other family excursions. We must provide the children a consistent message regarding objects which are considered dangerous and it is confusing to allow these items in school for any reason. Students’ costumes should always be age appropriate.

PTO DINE 'N' SHARE

Saturday, November 6th is the PTO's first Dine 'n' Share. The PTO will get 33% of total sales from 4:00-8:00pm. Please click on the graphic for more information.

STUDENT PORTRAITS

The deadline to send in your order form/payment for pictures is today. If your student didn't bring in their envelope yet, please make sure they bring it in on Monday. You also have the ability to place your order online.

BIRTHDAYS

The Fairview PTO has a wonderful history of giving students a book for their birthday. For the 2021-2022 school year, they are continuing that tradition. If your child is celebrating a birthday this month and interested in a birthday book please have them go onto ClassLink on their chrome book and go to the Birthday Book link or click on the graphic to access the link. Students who are learning from home can pick their birthday book up from the school.

RAPTOR VISITOR MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

All visitors, including parents, will be required to present valid state-issued identification that will be entered into our system before gaining access to the school beyond the main office. In addition, the Raptor system provides alerts about people who may jeopardize the safety of the school, including registered sex offenders who are not allowed entry into schools.

As we have done in the past, all parents and visitors will be asked to wear a visitor lanyard. In addition, a visitor badge will be printed and placed inside the plastic sleeve on a lanyard. The visitor badge will include the visitor’s name and photograph.

We believe this safety procedure will keep our schools safer and provide instant information about who is in our schools in the event of an evacuation. We ask for your cooperation as we implement this new system. While visitors will likely take a bit more time to check in with our schools’ front office teams, we know that this system will add another important layer of security.

Please click here for sign-in instructions.

STUDENT SAFETY

Please be advised that no parent/guardian is allowed to take their child off of the playground during school hours. Please come to the front of the school and announce yourself, the office will sign your child out electronically and send your child out the front doors to meet you.

We ask that you never approach your child when they are outside for lunch recess or gym class.

We appreciate your cooperation in this matter.

PTO "READ-A-WAY" PROGRAM

Read-A-Way is a reading incentive program from the Fairview PTO partnership with Station 34 in Mount Prospect. Students have a chance to earn a free kids pizza every month by meeting their daily reading goals. The program begins today and is expected to continue through April.

Click on the graphic for more information and this month's reading log calendar.

Concurrent students can drop their completed calendars off at the school. We will contact you once your certificate is ready to be picked up for your free pizza.

REMINDER

Please remember to put a bag with some extra masks in your student(s) backpack.

LOST AND FOUND

Our lost and found is already overflowing and it's not even winter. Please tell your student(s) to check the lost and found rack outside the front office if they lost a sweatshirt or water bottle. We also have several pairs of eyeglasses in the front office.

STUDENT DIRECTORY

Fairview's PTO offers all families that join the PTO access to the Directory Spot link. You must be a member of the PTO to get access to the link.

STUDENT SIGN-IN/SIGN-OUT PROCEDURE

The office's procedure for those times when you need to sign your child in or out of school has changed. We maintain an electronic sign-in/sign-out sheet in the office so all you have to do is drop your student off (if arriving late) and we will sign them in and get them down to their class. If you need to sign your child out, ring the doorbell, tell us who you are picking up, and we will send your student out the front door.

DID YOU FORGET SOMETHING?

We realize that sometimes students leave school at the end of the day only to realize that they forgot a workbook or homework at school. Students are only allowed to return to their classroom until 4:00 p.m. to retrieve forgotten items.

KEEP THE FRONT OFFICE INFORMED

When emailing your student's teacher regarding vacation plans, illness, doctor appointments, etc., please include the front office staff in your communication.

Also, please contact Fairview School’s office if your home/cell phone number, emergency contact numbers, or email address have changed.

If you have moved, please immediately contact the front office so we can update your student's records.
