Bobcat Bulletin
Week of August 30th
From the Desk of Principal Schmid
Our first full week done....!
It feels great to be back into a routine! There is nothing like the first day of school, but there is something to be said about getting into a structure and routine that just feels nice! I hope your family has gotten to have that feeling this week.
As always, we appreciate your partnership. If we can ever be of assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out!
Thank you,
Mrs. Keeley Schmid
Brookdale's Proud Principal
UPDATES
Curriculum Night 9/1
District 204's Curriculum Nights will be virtual this year.
PTA 101
Enjoy a short presentation all about the PTA and see what they've got planned for this year. Plus, you could enter to win a VIP parking spot at either World Culture Fair or STEAM Night - see the link in the PTA slides to enter: Brookdale PTA!
Your child's classroom teacher will send out his/her slide deck ahead of time (today by 4:00pm) and conduct a live Q and A session for the parents to attend to attend on 9/1. We have staggered the sessions to accommodate parents/guardians who have students at multiple grade levels. We will also have Q and A sessions open with our specialists for you to attend as well.
Brookdale will follow the agenda below on 9/1:
Agenda

3-5 6:30-7:30
Specialists 6:00-7:30
We will have the following Q and A sessions available for parents on 9/1 (hyperlinked below). Special mention should be made that these are for general questions and not individual student questions. If you have an individual student question or one you want to send ahead of time, please contact the staff member directly. All COVID-19 questions should be directed to our School Nurse Sonila Prifti or Principal Keeley Schmid.

2. ELL
3. PA
4. Specials
5. Interventionists (Reading and Math)
6. Special Education Team (Case Managers and Related Services)
Thank you for your flexibility as we try to bring back some normal during an abnormal time!
COVID-19
As I mentioned in previous communication, we have been reminded that we are very much still in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. We are making extra efforts here at Brookdale to keep our students safe and appreciate your support in talking with your child about the importance of proper mask wearing and physical distancing. All of these extra efforts are supporting our goal of keeping our students in school. We love that they are here, and we want to keep them here!
Notification of Positive COVID-19 Cases in Schools
Positive cases of COVID-19 in your child's school can be found on the District's COVID Dashboard. The dashboard includes all positive cases of COVID-19 reported to District 204 for individuals who were on campus. The information is updated each Monday by 4 pm. If your child is in close contact with someone who tested positive, a member of the COVID-19 Response Team will notify you directly regarding the need to quarantine as a precaution. Additional information found on this page includes the current transmission level and a link to the corresponding School Mitigation Strategies.
If your child is considered a close contact, you will be given a Quarantine Information Sheet (K-2, 3-5) along with your child's return date, to provide information in what schooling will look like for your child during quarantine. I have linked here the District’s Fall Plan with slides 10-13 providing information regarding isolation and quarantine for our elementary students. Thank you for your support as we do our best to provide transparency while also protecting the confidentiality of our students and staff.
As we make plans to get back to previous events, we have to follow the mitigation strategies, which are dependent on our current transmission level. The transmission level can be seen in the COVID dashboard (linked above). This is reviewed every two weeks by the District with the next update on 9/6. As we approach planned events, we will make decisions/modifications based on the current transmission level.
Men of Brookdale
MOB is Back!!!!!!!!
MOB (Men of Brookdale) is a group created in response to a District 204 initiative to bring more male role models into our schools. MOB volunteers help at Brookdale a couple of Friday’s each month to assist with recess and lunch. It's simple, fun and rewarding!
Adult male volunteers (dads, grandfathers, uncles, etc.) can come multiple times or just once (perhaps on a random day off). Sign up below for your chance to volunteer and make a difference as a MOB. If you have any questions, email Tim Phelan at timphelan15@gmail.com.

Birthday Book Club is BACK!
"A book is a present you can open again and again". The Birthday Book Club program invites students to donate a book of their special choosing to the LMC during the month of their birthday. One day each month all students who have chosen to participate in the program will go to the LMC after morning announcements to choose his or her book. A photo of the student will be taken and placed in the book on a special bookplate indicating the donor and his or her birthday. The book will then be checked out to that student. This is a great way to give a lasting gift to the school and celebrate your birthday at the same time.
Registration for Brookdale’s Birthday Book club can be found in the Pushcoin webstore. https://www.ipsd.org/Subpage.aspx/OnlineMealPayments scroll to bottom of page to see Webstore instructions.

Carline Reminders
Cars should not park or stop on the side parallel to the carline. This blocks the neighbors' driveway, and it creates a tight space for cars to get through when driving on Redfield.
Remember the goal is safe and efficient! Thanks for all your help in these efforts.

Morning Greeters Needed!
Help support the Brookdale staff and teachers by volunteering as a Morning Greeter!

2021-2022 School & PTA Events Calendar
We are thrilled to welcome back “live” events this school year! However, we recognize the need for flexibility during times like these. Attached you’ll find a tentative calendar for the school year, which will also come home in your student’s backpack.
