Designer Babies

History & Important people
The colloquial term "designer baby" refers to a baby whose genetic makeup has been artificially selected by genetic engineering combined with in vitro fertilization to ensure the presence or absence of particular genes or characteristics. From being an expectant mother i say all of this is unnecessary because if your child was supposed to come out with amazing athletics and health, perfect color eyes, hair, and skin the child would have all of those things from the beginning. In the mid-1990s, embryologist Jacques Cohen pioneered a promising new technique for helping infertile women have children. His technique, known as cytoplasmic transfer, was intended to "rescue" the eggs of infertile women who had undergone repeated, unsuccessful attempts at in vitro fertilization, or IVF. It involved injecting the cytoplasm found inside the eggs of a fertile donor, into the patient's eggs.
Technology
During the process of designer Babies IVF is used to make the procedure of designer babies successful . Being an expectant mother i would not allow the doctors to use this on my child. There are more risk in this Technology than benefits. when the doctor is using this something could not match up right and they end up taking the healthy embryos and end up leaving the bad ones this can cause the whole birth to go downhill. when you try to change the color of the skin, eye , or hair it could go completely wrong and they can end up getting some type of disease from that even if this is made to prevent diseases. the only benefit is that you get what you what you want end in the end i still do not agree with this.
Who should be in charge of regulating and monitoring this type of genetic engineering?
The U.k's Human Fertilization and Embryology Authority are currently in control. one of the laws are that you are banned to pick the sex of your child,Because they don't want the PGD to pick an embryo that led to the birth of a girl who lacked the genes, and predisposed her to breast cancer later in her life. They can prevent this by limiting number of embryos implanted and prohibit sex selections for the babies. I think that this is currently in good hands but we never know what could happen.
