Please contact your case manager if you have not been contacted by your assigned provider to schedule your students services.

Access to sessions: A Learning Coach/Parent is responsible for providing the necessary support and/or materials for their student to access Specialized Academic Instruction (SAI) and any related service sessions. The Learning Coach/parent should communicate with the session provider to determine the appropriate level of support your student requires to maximize session benefit. This will vary based on individual student needs.

IMPORTANT REMINDER: All student subscriptions and courses are purchased using the student’s school email address; this includes classes for Outschool.

PARENTS: You will need to create a separate Outschool account under your student’s school email; you cannot use your existing personal account. Outschool cannot merge the student accounts with parent accounts.

Homeschooling Advice

Your Child’s Learning Style – 4 Ways To Figure It Out!

I sat watching my child do a math worksheet and it was taking forever. It wasn’t making either of us excited at all. I knew my child’s learning style was visual and hands-on, but what that meant in practice, I wasn’t so sure yet. I was frustrated, and so was she.

Then, I tried using blocks for math. It helped some, but even better was when I only spent five minutes explaining the work using the manipulatives, and then let her do it on her own without actively watching.

She would pause every few sums to ask for affirmation that she was doing it right, and then continue. Next, I tried using Reading Eggs (not affiliated) which has a section on Math called Mathseeds. Instant hit. My daughter doesn’t seem to mind the repetition or the quizzes and can work through a number of lessons on her own.

Now, I combine the two because I believe that being able to do math on paper is still an important skill (for both handwriting and math itself), so she does a few sums on paper and then gets to do MathSeeds when she’s done. No fighting, no whining, and I can see she’s making progress. Win!

Homeschooling Helps Adolescents Avoid Sleep Deprivation

Having the freedom to choose later start times on school days may be a key advantage of homeschooling—especially for adolescents. If allowed to sleep in and start schooling later in the day, more of them could sleep longer and be less likely to experience sleep deprivation—a common issue among teens that is known to negatively impact their cognitive functioning, emotional regulation, and health. Here’s what some of the research says.

In a study published in Behavioral Sleep Medicine, homeschool teenagers who started later in the day than public and private school students benefited because the delayed start allowed them to experience an average of 49 more minutes of sleep per night during the week, even though the public and private school students generally had earlier bedtimes. Between Monday and Friday, this translated to 4.1 hours of additional sleep for homeschool students.
