During the Apartheid the government dramatically influenced changes causing new laws from leaders affecting life in South Africa. In the 1940's laws were passed to segrigate people of color from non-colored.The ANC Youth League started the defiance campaign of the 1950's. 8,000 people were arrested and British took control of the immigrants after the Boer War ended. Established South Africa as a self governing country and immigrants used effictive power instead. The laws put whites and people of color into seperate schools for education. Jobs were made for whites only and black people had to carry I.D cards. It was unjust but the law made it incapable for people of color to have freedom in life. Racism, even in the government, influenced people in South Africa to treat people of color unfair and with it being legal it made life for people of color even more difficult to survive.
Colored and uncolored were affected socially through schools, relationships, and religion during the Apartheid. Because all africans were classified by the color of there skin, many African students protested against the police and were firied apon by the police and all the students were unarmed over 1000 were killed. One catastrophe was the Sharpesville massacare 69 were killed, 186 people were injured and all were black unarmed and shot in the back.
The economy drastically changed for labor during War World 2 causing changes in jobs, poverty and wages. During this time many non-colored people went to war to fight for their country. This left many jobs open unexpectedly. Since there were many business with no employees they had to hire whoever could be suitable for the job. This opened up many jobs for people of color that did not have the opportunity before during the Apartheid. Although many jobs were reserved for whites only, many manufactured businesses opened up jobs for people of color. The whites did not like that but at the time could not do much about it. The segregation between people of color and white people continued but this gave the people of color an opportunity to show that they are just like non-colored people and can complete a task just as well and sometimes even better. They hired colored-people because they could also pay them shorter wages with helped the businesses because prices were increasing on goods during War World 2. Poverty increased, especially with women whose husbands went to war. People struggled to pay their bills and whites were outraged about people of color taking their jobs. As a result, the war caused many problems for society economically especially during the Apartheid.
The Apartheid caused many changes for people and even had effects changing how society is today. One cause for segregation stemmed from a Dutch reform church having a theory that each race should develop on their own. Racism has always been a serious issue causing unfairness in all aspects between, careers, relationships, education and so on. History was severely changed when the Apartheid began, trying to create freedom for the people of color. As a result, people of color have the same rights as everyone else does and there is no segregation in the world. Everyone is treated equally. In conclusion, there were few reasons as to why white people segregated people of color but many results to fix the issue. The Apartheid changed how we live today for the better.
Impacts After it Ended
Resulting in freedom between colored and the non-colored there were many changes the government and society. When the Apartheid had ended there leader Nelson Mandela who was in jail for 28 years and the 30 year ban on the ANC was lifted, Because after the many massacres European and U.S activists protested against the Apartheid and put pressure on Africa to change what is happening. Then after Nelson Mandela was freed the was elected president of South Africa.
