First Day Back!
What an exciting day! I've been popping into classroom meetings, and I'm so impressed with our students and teachers. Together, we are making the best of a very difficult situation, and I'm loving all the smiles I'm seeing. There's no doubt this is hard, and we would all prefer to see each other in person. Thank you for continuing to support your child(ren) academically and mentally through distance learning. As a parent myself, it's not always easy to stay positive and work through the technology kinks and push back from my boys. I try to remember, they will take their cues regarding how to respond in this situation from me. Reach out for support from your teachers, office staff, and of course myself. We are happy to help in any way we can. Today, as we muddle through, I keep reminding myself of the quote "We are made to do hard things." I can't think of a more appropriate mantra for today.
Have a fabulous first week!

New Phone Number for Student Tech Support
In order to better serve staff and students, starting Tuesday we will use a different phone system. Students should call or text 503-886-8956 for technical assistance, selecting English or Spanish when prompted. The old student tech support number will prompt them to call the new one.
Extremely limited evening support will be available in the form of call backs for students. There will be two technicians available, one of whom is bilingual. We are continuing to explore staffing options in hopes of being able to provide support.
Support is also available through techhelp@hsd.k12.or.us. Requests such as password changes and Google Classroom navigation should be directed to your child's teacher as much as possible, so our technicians can focus on more specialized issues.
Hot Spots
Tech Services has options for families who need internet access. Families that qualify for free or reduced lunch are eligible to receive a code good for six months of free internet access through Comcast Internet Essentials. This is the fastest and most stable way to connect. Hotspots are also available to any family that needs an internet connection. If you are in need of this resource, please contact our office.
Meals Update
Meal delivery and distribution began last week. Thanks to a last-minute decision by the USDA, meals will be provided free to all students through December 2020. This change means that meals will not only be delivered via bus routes (check MyBus for stop locations and times), but will also be available in a drive-through/walk-up model at six schools: Century High School, R.A. Brown Middle School, Evergreen Middle School, Poynter Middle School, South Meadows Middle School, and Lincoln Street Elementary School. We are thrilled to provide meals for all HSD students.
SERVICES OFFERED FOR TALENTED AND GIFTED (TAG) STUDENTS/ Servicios para Estudiantes Talentosos y Dotados (TAG)

Students who score at or above the 97th percentile on a nationally standardized, norm-referenced test of overall reading or math or on a mental abilities test, and have other confirming evidence that they learn at a rapid rate and advanced level, are identified as TAG students. With parent input, individual plans are made to adjust the rate and level of the student’s instruction to meet his or her specific needs.
