Memorial Weekend is upon us, while this usually signifies the start of the summer season it is also a rally call to make one more final push to have a strong finish to the school year. There are quite a few events and activities to make you aware of as we head into June please take note of the following dates and recognize the following people:
- A huge thank you and shout out goes out to our wonderful PTO and all volunteers that helped out at the Jog-A-Thon. The weather was spectacular and our students rose to the occasion. We need to collect all pledge envelopes ASAP. Money raised from this year's Jog-A-Thon is being targeted for a new reader board sign in front of YCIS....Our PTO also took great care and attention of our teacher's during Teacher Appreciation Week and we are so thankful.
- On Wednesday we had our 3rd Grade fly up where incoming 4th graders had the opportunity to tour our building, meet our teachers and enjoy a popsicle. We look forward to having our new 4th graders at YCIS next year. There will also be an opportunity for parents to do a meet and greet with teachers and tour our building prior the start of next school year. More details will be sent out on that in August.
- Today 5/26 our 5th graders are presenting their Wax Museum. This living history exhibition will be taking place at 1:30 in the cafeteria on campus. Pictures to follow.
- Next week we will have our last Spirit Week of the year. Thank you to Ann Foley and our YCIS Leadership students for organizing (see flyer below). Spirit week will culminate in an after school neon dance for our 7th/8th grade students from 3:30-5:30.
- Our final Tiger Tough assembly will be on Friday June 9th at 2:10 in the YCIS gym. Parents of students getting recognized will receive and invitation and have photo opportunities after the assembly
- 8th Grade Promotion is taking place Monday June 12th at 6:30. This will take place outdoors on athletic field. Prior to the promotion we will have the 8th grade awards and dessert from 1:00-2:00 in the YCIS gym.
- Take note our 7th and 8th grade field trips will be taking place on June 13th. Our 8th graders will spend the day at Oaks Park in Portland and our 7th graders will be heading to Neskowin. Remember there is a tardy and referral policy in place to be eligible for the these field trips. Since April if a student has 6+ tardies or 3+ referrals or is failing more than 3 classes they will not be eligible for these trips and will stay on campus.
- On June 13th our 4,5,6 grade classes will be having a field day. Students should dress for activity and with sunny weather (fingers crossed).
- Please see the flyer below if you are interested in receiving Summer Food Boxes. There is a QR code on the flyer or you can access the survey through this link: https://forms.gle/m5yW7B8y2oxyuo5fA
- The last day of school is on Thursday June 15th. This will be a half day with students being excused at 11:40. Sack lunches will be available to take home at regular lunch prices.
The school year is coming to a rapid end. Please make sure students are finishing assignments, re-taking tests when they have the opportunity to do so and getting to class on time. We look forward to our end of year celebrations and spending the last few weeks of the school year educating our students.
