The Opening of School has been Delayed
The Dallas Board of Trustees has approved a new instructional calendar for the 2020-2021 school year. This change will remove the October Fair Day and add Nov. 3, 2020 as a board approved holiday. The start of school will now be September 8, 2020.
The report to work date has changed for individuals who work hourly for 185 days in Student Transportation Services (mainly drivers and monitors). The new report to work day is now August 28, 2020 and the last work day is now June 21, 2021.
Opt-In Opportunity for All Hourly Student Transportation Services Employees on 185 day Calendar
Because the start date for our active 185 day hourly employees has shifted from August 7, 2020 to August 28, 2020, the Student Transportation Services Department has been working with other departments to establish a work opportunity.

Summer Essential Worker Pay Ends
On August 3, 2020 employees will resume receiving pay at either their regular hourly rate or the supplemental rate of $15 / hour, depending on their work duties.
Active employees who have already reported to work and were receiving essential worker pay will go back to receiving their regular hourly rate on August 3, 2020.
Employees who were working in a supplemental opportunity (pre-screeners, summer feeding, bus seat repair, etc.) and have not yet officially reported back to work (August 28, 2020) will all transition to $15 / hour.
Regular hourly rates will begin August 14, 2020 for anyone working supplemental work or Opt-In Work on or after August 14, 2020.
Social Distancing & Face Masks on the Bus
The CDC Guidelines for social distancing on a school bus have the potential to severely impact transportation services. The guidelines state to create distance between children on school buses (seat children one child per row, skip rows) when possible.
All bus riders will be required to wear face masks while on the bus. Additionally, we are asking parents to prescreen their children prior to dropping them off at the bus stop each morning. As an additional precaution, students will be screened prior to boarding the bus. Students with a normal temperature will be allowed to board. The bus driver will contact dispatch to deploy alternate transportation for students with higher than normal temperature (above 100.4).
All effort will be made to keep students socially distanced on the bus especially on buses that have few students. Our buses will be marked with Red X's on seats to deter students from sitting next to each other and social distance guidelines will be followed when possible.
Disinfecting the Buses
Protocols at the Service Centers
The service center directors have been working collaboratively to develop standard protocols for each of the centers to make sure that all of the drivers are in a safe environment. These protocols include a solution for clocking in / clocking out where the biometric clock will only be used minimally.
We are also exploring a safer way to distribute keys changing the way dispatch operates. There will only be one way to enter the building and one way to exit the building. This will cut down on the number of individuals bumping into each other at the center.
Pre-Screeners
Pre-screeners asked to continue in their current role until August 27,2020. The role of the pre-screeners has been extended and the pay rate will change to their regular hourly rate on August 14, 2020.
August 3, 2020 - change from Monday - Thursday to Monday - Friday
August 14,2020 - pay will change from supplemental pay $15 hour to Regular Hourly Rate.
