The 20th century theatre began to revolutionize with the idea of impressionistic rather than realistic representations. Also, revolving stages, projected scenery, and lighting effects were created. In Germany, Bertolt Brecht created his epic theatre where he encouraged his audience to think critically.. To do this, he inserted narration and songs between scenes, and he used placards, projections to challenge them to ask questions.
